BBM beta testing starts again with new version of the app
Stop us if you've heard this before. BBM for Android is undergoing a beta test. Actually, after the failed attempt to push out its fabled messaging service to Android users two weekends ago, the Canadian manufacturer is starting again with some changes. Those testing the app talk of a new 'welcome screen' that explains app notifications and the constant notifications in the status bar can be disabled. And apparently the extra time has helped BlackBerry spiff up the UI.

We still don't have a date for the relaunch. You might recall that an unreleased version of BBM for Android hit the Google Play Store (along with a large number of fakes) and 1.1 million people loaded it onto their phones. At the same time, BBM for iOS was getting pushed out regionally. When the unreleased Android flavored version of BBM screwed things up and prevented a valid launch, BlackBerry wisely took all of its marbles and went home.

Hopefully we won't get a repeat of the problems that made rolling out BBM for iOS and BBM for Android so problematic for BlackBerry. Now that the Android version is in beta, we shouldn't be too far away from another try at a launch.
