Asus cutting back on the bloatware, plans to update ZenFone 3 and ZenFone 4 to Android "O"

Asus cutting back on the bloatware, plans to update ZenFone 3 and ZenFone 4 to Android
Earlier this morning, we told you about the six new models unveiled by Asus for its ZenFone 4 series. But there is more information to discuss about Asus. For example, at the event today, the manufacturer promised that the entire ZenFone 3 and ZenFone 4 line will be updated to Android O. And where Android O goes, so goes ZenUI 4.0, which will be running on top of the next Android build.

Asus also plans on cutting back on bloatware, something that smartphone buyers the world over will be happy to see. From the 35 pre-installed apps found on ZenUI 3.5, ZenUI 4.0 will have just 13 pre-installed apps. That works out to a 63% drop in bloatware on the latest Asus UI.

ZenUI 4.0 will also contain some new features such as Twin Apps (two social media accounts on one device) and bookmarking app Page Marker. The big new feature that everyone is excited to see with Android O is "picture-in-picture," which allows you to watch videos in a floating window. Asus says that by the second half of 2018 it will have updated all of its Android O enabled models to the new Android build.

Second half of 2018 isn't really that promising, meh...

Finally OEM's are starting to understand what people actually want in their phones. Hopefully Asus goes even further and drops ZenUI altogether.

Any form of manufacturer UI is under a CON to me.

Guys . "By the second half of 2018" means that all zenfone 3 and 4 series devices will recieve Android O before that time . Not the time when the update rolls out . We all know what happened with the Zenfone 2 series' updates . But things got better with Zenfone 3 series' updates . And It seems like it will get better with Zenfone 4 series' updates . And for the people who say "stick to stock android" : Asus isn't idiot to leave a feature-rich and customizable UI in favor of featureless and boring stock android .

I read that part, that's what I was referring to, by 2018, which isn't that promising at all. Giving themselves such a big window, can most likely mean it will be later rather than sooner. Saying "by the end of 2017" would be more comforting, or "by the 1st quarter of 2018."
