Fresh leak reveals new camera features and more for the Apple iPhone 11 line
Some new information pertaining to the upcoming 2019 Apple iPhone models has been leaked. According to 9to5Mac, the model known internally as D42 (iPhone12,3) will replace the iPhone XS. D43 (iPhone12,5) is the sequel to the iPhone XS Max, and N104 (iPhone12,1) will be the new "more affordable" iPhone taking over for the iPhone XR. The screen resolution sizes of all three phones will remain the same. So the D42 will sport a 5.8-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1125 x 2436. The D43 will be equipped with a 6.5-inch OLED screen with a 1242 x 2688 resolution, and the D43 will carry a 6.1-inch LCD screen featuring a resolution of 828 x 1792.

As expected, the 2019 iPhones will not come with a Type-C port; that's the word from those who have allegedly seen the new models. Apple's proprietary Lightning charger will be used on the company's handsets for perhaps the last time. Apple is expected to include a Type-C to Lightning dongle in the box. We also expect Apple to toss in an 18W charging brick instead of the 5W one that it has been handing out to iPhone buyers. Currently available from Apple for $29, consider this a hard-earned gift from the gang in Cupertino this year.

The square camera module on the back panel is for real

Today's report also reiterates that 3D Touch is no more. Already removed on the iPhone XR (supposedly because of the LCD panel), all three units will go without this feature in 2019 and probably beyond. Instead, Apple is including something with the code name of leap haptics. Without 3D Touch, Apple might be looking to improve the Haptic Touch feature that is triggered with a long press on the screen as opposed to the hard press that activates 3D Touch. The improvements being made to Haptic Touch could make it easier for those who depend on 3D Touch to say goodbye to it. In addition, with iPadOS, Haptic Touch will make its debut on the iPad.

As for the rear cameras, you probably are already familiar with the square camera module that will appear on the upper left corner of the rear glass panel. You might not like the way it looks, but today's report indicates that it will indeed be on the new models. The iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Max will each have three cameras housed in the module (a primary camera, telephoto camera, and a wide-angle camera). The new wide-angle sensor will reportedly include a feature called Smart Frame that has several functions. Users can adjust the framing of an image, or have it cropped automatically in the processing process. The unused part of the photo will be saved for a limited time and then deleted. The iPhone 11R will have two rear cameras (primary + telephoto). The front-facing FaceTime cameras on all three phones will support 120fps slo-mo recording.

While not mentioned in the report, we expect to see the phones come with larger batteries to support the reverse wireless charging feature that Apple will supposedly include with its 2019 phones. Similar to Samsung's PowerShare (which itself was "borrowed" from the Huawei Mate 20 Pro), the rear glass panel on the new models can serve as a wireless charging pad to replenish the batteries in the AirPods wireless charging case, an Apple Watch, or a Qi-compatible phone. Of course, the host phone will be using some of its battery power in this process.

There seems to be more excitement over the rumored specs of the 2020 iPhones. The early word is that there will be a 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Max, a 5.4-inch iPhone 12 and a 6.1-inch iPhone 12R. All three will carry OLED panels and the first two models will support 5G connectivity. Also, there is speculation about the return of Touch ID (an in-display fingerprint reader) and the elimination of the notch.

This is my opinion and I admit is subjective, But to me this is one of the ugliest designs I have ever seen on an iPhone. Where the iPhone 4 and 5 were the epitome of an elegant design. This one is like Apple just completely gave up on design . First the uni-brow (notch) and now the tumor along with the uni-brow. To me this is just ugly, But again that is just my opinion and to someone else this might be gold. As they say "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder".

Oh...This little girl wants a pretty, pretty phone,so she can take selfies:-) All I care is functionality, not the way it looks. I'm sure they did something with this cameras.

So no Time of Flight cameras this time around until 2020 for Apple. Once again Apple is behind, especially since lots of Android smartphones are going to be coming with ToF cameras, this year. Also with no 3D touch Apple is copying Android again. I wonder were those guys from Phonearena are, like the ones that said Android doesn't have 3D touch. Well Android OEMs are ahead of the curve. Apple is definitely not a leader, especially not these days. No wonder why they declined in sales.

It's strange how you talk on behalf of android on every post,, I've used the most expensive android phone till date and it didn't have anything replaceable to 3d touch or the new haptics to be seen on next iPhones... What do you talk about? No android oem is leading, how do you combine all the companies in the world and call it Android,, samsung sales are not to be combined with Sony or Huawei sales. They are all different companies struggling to compete with iPhones in premium segment. They admit that their phone isn't better than an iPhone and they need to copy so much but you don't admit... Are you working for Google to comment on behalf of android on every comment? Which phone do you personally own and support!? Do you think it's better than iPhone XS?

”It's strange how you talk on behalf of android on every post,” That’s how they always talk, they say like Android have had this and this, it’s always same story. They basicly combine all the Android OEMs with their talk and find that one who have those things.

First of all why would any OEM look for anything replaceable to 3D touch, Android or other? Especially when Apple is the only one that supported it, and even they are killing it off. Why? Because developers didn't jump on it. Why? Because developers still had to make their apps support non 3D touch iOS devices as well. Plus users had to play the 3D touch Guessing game. Is 3D touch supported or not? Oh, and what does the 3D touch add to this app if it is supported? Clearly 3D touch is a POS, or else it wouldn't be killed off. I guess Android OEMs were smart for not wasting their time with something as stupid as 3D touch. Hello Long press! Enjoy your 3D touch while you still can on your iPhone Mike88. As far as sales are concerned Samsung sells around 300 million smartphones every year. Apple this year is looking at around 183 million iPhones, and that is a far cry from where Apple was in sales. Apple makes it up by charging more or raising their average sales price (ASP). Apple doesn't include a quick charger or matching cable, and there is no audio dongle. More money to Apple. Apple even increases their services fees as well. Especially if you didn't buy into Apples extortion insurance, sorry I mean Apple Care. Apple has a good scam going on with that. As if it cost over $400 USD or $550 CAD to replace the glass back of an iPhone XR. That's if you didn't buy Apples extortion insurance, sorry I forgot it's called Apple Care. No wonder why Apple is fighting hard to stop the right to repair people. I don't work for Google, I am a developer. I own lots of different smartphones, and change regularly. Now Apple doesn't have the best cameras, displays, modems, batteries, or the most ram, or most and fastest storage, no quick charger or matching cables in the box. Apple still has crappy, slow, lightning. Oh, and Apple doesn't have ToF cameras, or TouchID. Yet multiple Android OEMs have them, with more Android OEMs adopting ToF cameras this year, before Apple sees a ToF camera in 2020. Android OEMs also have under the display fingerprint scanners, including acoustic or ultrasonic sensors

”As far as sales are concerned Samsung sells around 300 million smartphones every year.” Samsung sales been down 10 million quarter for many quarters already. Samsung sales going to be 270-280 million this year. Nowhere close to 300 million. Getting 300 million would mean 75m average for every q. Samsung best q for this year is already behind and they are now around 6 million behind already.

Who else?

Maybe he wants to say one plus,, he is using a one plus but too shy of mentioning it on iPhone posts so he simply says android.. Come on dude, one plus is a good phone, just use the word if you love what you bought, maybe you made a good choice for yourself but don't be offended with apple and apple users... People who buy iPhones at those high prices aren't stupid. It might have something they love, you think people buy it for an apple logo to offend someone like you but it's not true. Let them buy what they love, don't be so offended seriously. You love your one plus? It's good, there's nothing bad with it but don't hate others for no reason.

"People who buy iPhones at those high prices aren't stupid." There was an article stating that over 50% of iPhone users don't even know the model of iPhone they are using. That tells me those people are tech illiterate. Plus most iPhones are bought through carriers and their contracts. That is why Apple sucks in South America, Africa, India, and most other poor countries, or where there is no deals for carrier contracts.

How are they utilizing the ToF sensor? I personally haven’t seen it do anything useful on android phones.

On Android ToF cameras are being used for Facial recognition, and it's better than Apples FaceID. Portrait mode, air gestures, AR, 3D scanning, and more. Why do you think Apples FaceID is going to be changing to a ToF camera next year? ToF cameras care more accurate, and can scan any and all objects within the cameras view. Apples FaceID be can only scan a face. Apples FaceID is crap in comparison to a ToF camera.

This whole sales war thing is completely stupid. Apple sells more phones in the US than Samsung. Samsung probably sells more in South Korea. Huawei sells more in China. Wanna know why? Different cultures prefer different features and devices. Raw power means nothing. Price tag means nothing. I can charge $3000 for a phone, that doesn't mean its better. I can put five A12's and five SD855s in a phone with 40GB of RAM. It means nothing (I don't know if that's how it works, but I'm making a point, not a real device). The comments section is a disastrous word search trying to find a meaningful/worthwhile comment. Every "party" is guilty. Person A will prefer phone A. Person B will prefer phone B. Who are you to decide who is right and wrong? Do you judge people for ordering something different when you go out to eat? does it ruin your day when they order chicken when you got fish? what about when thye prefer peaches and you prefer apples? Just Shut up. Everyone.

Don’t try to reason with them. It’s not even about smartphones anymore it’s about winning an argument.

Companies are using ToF just for bokeh, which is waste of time/space/money since ToF can do other stuff. AR has been around for years, nobody cares ..

Wrong, a ToF camera is used to scan anything within its view. So ToF cameras can be used for a lot more than bokeh. They can be used for better facial recognition than Apples crappy FaceID, which can only be used to scan a face, plus it's low resolution. Apples IR projector only sends out 30 thousand dots. Or less than a resolution 175x175. Talk about crap. A ToF camera can be used for AR, VR, 3D object scanning, hand or air gestures, and more. All of which is missing from Apples FaceID camera setup. LG's G8 can scan a face with more accuracy than Apples FaceID.

”LG's G8 can scan a face with more accuracy than Apples FaceID.” What difference that makes in use? I saw video, it’s not any faster than Face ID

Well. I believe Apple is solely losing Dale's for 2 reasons: Price of $1000 is a big deal, especially if you live in a country where you have to pay $1000 for the iPhone XR. Apple simply priced themselves out of reach of more people. Next, they are simply boring. Android has changed far more than iOS had and it's not just about features. If Apple spent as much time and money on improving their products vs litigating all the time; they would stop br making impressive sales numbers. But they too busy being too greedy. No ones phone has changed enough to be worth $1000....PERIOD. And Apple limitations on device hardware and features make that even more apparent.

Yes perception is certainly, to each his/her own. However, no one should be able to find this phone model to be anything but ugly. See how others react -

I agree with you but would also add in the iPhones 6-8 series as the last good design. But in the end it really doesn't matter at all what the phones look like, Apple fanboys and the mass public will buy in droves.

All that matters is that Apple logo. End of story. It's all about brand recognition. All the celebrities and wealthy people use Apple products even if they are inferior and so the general public will follow suite.

I’m not gonna argue against brand loyalty in a lot of cases, but couldn’t it also be that people have a couple of thousand pictures on iCloud accompanied by money spent in the ecosystem as well?

42. oldskool50 unregistered

Yes they will. But those drives are still getting smaller. I want Apple and Samsung to sell their products like they all should. But you have to make a product people want to buy. For anyone to claim price is not a problem I'd a total fool. If anyone says design doesnt matter they are a fool. If anyone says specs dont matter, then they are a fool. They all matter. Some people just give more credence to what matters to them. When I pay a certain price for a phone or any product, then I expect it will have certain things. Just like I expect if I pay more for a burgerz it should be of better quality vs a cheaper one. But when I look at a product that are basically identical in price, and one seriously lacks in any category, then that I'd a problem for me. Because if you are gonna change me more. I need to see why. Or I wont buy it. And if Apple fan or Samsung fan stop buying products they actually don't like, then OEMS won't make them that way.

”This is my opinion and I admit is subjective, But to me this is one of the ugliest designs I have ever seen on an iPhone.” It’s really hard to say how it looks because we have seen like 5 different renders and it won’t going to look like any of those. ”In order to make that camera bump as little of an eyesore as possible, the iPhone 11 will purportedly feature a “new and unique” back glass design, with the rear panel being made of a single piece of glass. The triple-lens camera bump will reportedly be housed underneath that piece of glass, which should help it appear slightly less notable.” None of the renders doesn’t show anything like that.

Please remember this post. The iPhone 11 is gonna have the worse sales of any iPhone since the release of the iPhone 6. The iPhone 11 sales will be so terrible, that Apple sales will fall to between 150M-170M and will continue to fall. The iPhone 12 new design, may slow the falling sales and keep them at 150M-160M, but then a repeated design with a 12S will surely make sales fall below 150M. Ive left the company because he stated the push on design has stopped and the iPhone design is now being dictated by profit margin and the XR shows that. Apple is falling hard bruh. Samsung is hurting too. But they can rebound faster because they have lots of alternate models that can pick up the slack. Apple doesnt. And please remember this fact. In order to get a cheaper iPhone, you must buy an older model, that you didnt buy to begin with because you didnt like it. With Android, you ca. Buy a cheaper model, and you still get one with the latest hardware available for its price point. And what you get in many ways will be better then what you get from Apple. This phone is a terrible design. In fact its worse than the iPhone 6 which I also dont like. I actually like the iPhone X design. But the notch and the lose of running 32bit apps was the killer for me. But the iPhone X/XS look far cleaner and beautiful especially in that new gold color which I really do want and will buy soon enough. But I'm not gonna get an iPhone 11. Its ugly and that isn't even an opinion or preference. The Pixels are all ugly too. But their ugly is more subjective.
