A massive DROID X update is now available
Quite a few Motorola DROID X owners are very proud of their handset and see no point in buying a different phone in the foreseeable future. For this loyal bunch, a new update - version 2.3.340 (don't be confused, this is still Froyo) - is now available.

It remedies some bugs (for example, the handset remains locked after long key presses and the "Force Close" camera error is a thing of the past), improves some existing features (for example Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync) and adds a few more goodies - like pre-loaded Flash Player 10.1, EA's Madden NFL and some new MyVerizon apps.

For more info, hit the Verizon link and enjoy the update.

Mine allowed me to download the update but failed twice to install it. My phone is rooted so not sure if that has anything to do with it.

If you unroot your phone you will the update will go through :)

Yes, the update appears to not work if it detects superuser, apk and also seems to fail if it does not detect most of the prior VZW installed apks that many rooted users remove or rename to .bak. If you put the apps back and un-root the phone then you should easily be able to install the update. You can then re-root with your favorite rooting tool/method, as the rooting tricks do not seem to be adjusted with this update. The updated system runs pretty smooth, so no complaints.
