7000 Burger King locations will soon accept the Rewards mobile payments app
Burger King has a whopper of a mobile app coming next month. The app will support a mobile payment platform that will cover 7000 locations in the U.S. Burger King already has a e-wallet type mobile payment system which this new app will enhance. Burger King could add in the future, the ability for users to order meals via the app for later pick up.

B.K. spokesman Bryson Thornton said that the app will roll out to more locations starting next month and is developed by Tillster Inc. One of the features of the app will be coupons for customers that appear whenever a user adds money or "recharges" the credit card associated with the app. Also, Burger King will post nutritional information from its menu inside the app, which right now is limited to iOS devices and features an interactive map.

Currently, the app is supported at Burger King locations in Sacramento, Reno, Baltimore and New York City. That, of course, will change when the 7000 locations are added next month. You can pick up the Burger King app for free from the App Store and iTunes.

I'm in one of the original test markets (Baltimore) and have been using the app for quite awhile. It's actually pretty slick. BK loads coupons in it occasionally and allows you to earn crowns toward free food (1 crown = 1 dollar spent). They'll occasionally send texts telling you when there's "double crown" days where you can earn crowns twice as fast. If you pay with your BK card, you get bonus crowns. In my area, you could either download the app or get a physical card that does the same thing. You can also link the card to your app. Redemption levels are as follows: 25 crowns = A drink 50 crowns = Any food item on the menu 75 crowns = A free combo meal They were also giving a free Whopper (essentially 50 crowns) for signing up. When they said any item, they meant it. I used my "free Whopper" and got a double Whopper with cheese and bacon. I've also gotten large combos as well. Using the app for earning and redeeming was easy. The app will generate a 4 digit code that the cashier inputs. Crowns posted immediately after the transaction was closed. It's a well-done and easy to use app. BK did a good job with this. I hope other chains will implement something similar.
