Huawei P9, P9 Max and P9 Lite leak out in a sketchy listing

The Huawei P9 is the upcoming flagship phone of one of the fastest growing phone brands in the world: Chinese Huawei. In 2015, Huawei grew in leaps and bounds to become the world's third largest phone maker, right behind Samsung and Apple.

Now, the specs of the upcoming Huawei P9 have leaked out on Chinese phone reseller Oppomart, and those yet unconfirmed specifications reveal that Huawei is gearing up to launch three new phones under the P9 brand: the flagship, 5.2" Huawei P9, a larger, 6.2" Huawei P9 Max, and a smaller and more affordable, 5" Huawei P9 Lite. The website uses the same placeholder image for all of the phones, showing a phone with a sleek metal body and a fingerprint scanner positioned on the back.

The single most impressive specification listed, however, is not about the processor or cameras: it is about how amazingly thin the Huawei P9 and P9 Max are shaping up to be. At just 6.4mm - if true - these would be the two thinnest mainstream phones on the market. At the same time, this will allegedly happen without huge compromises to battery life - the Huawei P9 is listed with a quite generous 3,000mAh battery. Here is a quick rundown of the specs of the three new models:

Huawei P9

  • Display: 5.2-inch with 1080 x 1920-pixel resolution
  • SoC: HiSilicon Kirin 950
  • Cameras: 12MP dual rear cam with OIS and laser focus
  • Memory: 3GB RAM, 32GB storage

Huawei P9 Max

  • Display: 6.2-inch with 1440 x 2560-pixel resolution
  • SoC: HiSilicon Kirin 960
  • Cameras: 12MP dual rear cam, 8MP front cam
  • Memory: 4GB RAM, 64GB storage

Huawei P9 Lite

  • Display: 5-inch with 1080 x 1920-pixel resolution
  • SoC: Snapdragon 650
  • Cameras: 12MP dual rear cam with OIS and laser focus
  • Memory: 2GB RAM, 16GB storage

All in all, these three new phone shape up to be quite competitive, hitting various price points. We're, however, still wondering whether that 6.2" form factor for the P9 Max isn't just too big for most people.

Chances are that we'll know very soon: Huawei is expected to unveil the new P9 series in the very near future.

So every Android OEM is now stuffing in a 12MP sensor into their flagships?

Wow... Gone is the Megapixel rat race. What a new trend!

Friends, he is right in one way only. Several smartphones have risen up after the release of iPhone 6S in september, some of which have a 12 mp camera on their backs. Example, nexus 6p, galaxy s7/s7 edge, etc. Is it because of the effects from the iPhone, or due to any other reason, we can only guess. It could also be due to the fact that such resolution is a suitable one for pic. quality, not too high, or too low. But throughout time, we will surely see more phones with 12 mp cameras.

Thanks, AmashAziz.

That's exactly what I meant. But that Arch_Fiend guy intentionally misunderstood me, in order to bash my comment. As he usually does.

Its every persons' duty to compliment and agree on what's correct. I am just one of those who always try to follow this rule. Welcome by the way.

The Light isn't a POS this time around, if those specs are right anyway.

In the pictures: Quad HD is 2560 x 1440 and I wouldn't call it 2k

IRK unless they have just been good at not leaking it and plan to unveil it and a new device rocking it at the same time.

Probably Kirin 955, just CPU and GPU clocked at a higher frequency.

Because Huawei is to release the P9 with 3GB RAM means they're idiots?

What about Apple who still releases it's flagships with 2GB RAM!
