Apple reveals the real capacity behind the 11 Pro Max's record battery life
We have been wondering what's the secret behind the iPhone 11 Pro Max that has the best battery life of any iPhone so far, and the speculated 3500mAh, or even the earlier 3650mAh rumor couldn't explain the whole picture.

Granted, the new OLED display generation and more efficient A13 chipset add to the record real-life battery endurance of the phone, but they still can't be adding 5 more hours to the battery life of the phone as Apple claims in the specs sheet.

Said five hours are more than a 30% increase over the 15 hours of video playback that the XS Max offers, and a 10-15% bump in battery capacity doesn't cut it, even with the new screen/chipset combo.

That's because the actual battery capacity of the iPhone 11 Pro Max is much, much larger than previously thought, and the huge increase was just confirmed by two separate sources, one of which is Apple itself.

In a legal filing (PDF) regarding the battery pack safety certification requirements of its devices, Apple lists the iPhone 11 Pro Max as having a 15.04 Wh capacity, compared to the 12.08 Wh of its XS Max predecessor.

At a typical 3.79V battery voltage, it amounts to a 24.5% increase, and if you are wondering how much is that in the good ol' milliampere-hour (mAh or milliamp-hour), the Chinese equivalent of the FCC, abbreviated TENAA, just revealed the actual capacity in an easily digestible amount - 3969mAh.

Yep, the iPhone 11 Pro Max delivers 33% longer battery life than the XS Max because its battery is 25% larger, and the screen or chipset are about 10% more efficient than before. Makes sense. Here's the full breakdown from Apple's legally required battery filings:

iPhone XR - 11.16 Whr
iPhone 11 - 11.91 Whr (+7%)

iPhone XS - 10.13 Whr
iPhone 11 Pro - 11.67 Whr (+15%)

iPhone XS Max - 12.08 Whr
iPhone 11 Pro Max - 15.04 Whr (+25%)
