Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s video leak touts a corner notch, wireless charging hinted

March 27 is shaping up to be a very interesting date for whose who follow the developments out of the Chinese phone industry. The world's third and fourth handset makers are set to announce their spring crops then, and, while we know most everything there is to know about Huawei's P20 trio, Xiaomi's announcement is still a bit of a mystery when it comes to outer appearance.

We know that it is going to announce the bezel-less Mi Mix 2s, boosted by Qualcomm's powerful new Snapdragon 845 mobile platform. The device is expected to feature a four-sided ceramic body, and carry a tall 5.99-inch display. According to previous rumors, the device will have a version with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM, along with 256GB of high speed UFS storage. A pair of 12MP cameras will adorn the back of the handset, and in-display fingerprint scanner may be on board. The Mi Mix 2s is expected to be equipped with global 4G LTE bands and wireless charging, as you can see from Xiaomi's official teaser on the right.

While we can expect record benchmark scores, thanks to the Snapdragon 845 chipset, what interests us more is the way the company approaches the "all-screen" trend. It was the first to release a phone that trimmed bezels to the max, with the original Mi Mix, then took this a step further with the Mix 2. The 2s, however, may be addressing the biggest criticism against its predecessors - the unorthodox front camera placement and earpiece technologies.

Judging from the leaked video above, a regular speaker is housed in a slit at the top frame, where it belongs, and the selfie camera is up top this time, housed in a tiny notch at the corner. Thus, Xiaomi will kill several birds with one stone, and we can't wait to measure the screen-to-body ratio on this one.

That's how every notch should look like!

I'm definitely liking the top of the phone's design. Hopefully the bezel on the bottom is the same as the top.

According to this video, the phone has no chin. Also, it seems to have copied Apple's gesture for opening the task manager. https://youtu.be/N8sG7zKdPsY?t=16s

Then according to this video, the camera is at the bottom and it has a slightly thicker bezel down there. I honestly don't know how I feel about the Apple gestures. I feel like Samsung's navigation buttons with a pressure sensitive home button would be a better experience but this is coming from someone who hasn't fully used the iPhone X and S8. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjCP8X2iLkk We'll just have to wait and see which design they went with.

I just read some news about that too. https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/03/08/alleged-xiaomi-mi-mix-2s-spotted-in-real-skin-with-repositioned-selfie-camera-in-screen-fingerprint-sensor/ And to be fair, this newer version I like more than the notch in the top right corner. I prefer a small chin over a notch. And I don't take selfies. I really hope it has IPxx rating though.

I would just prefer the chin to be at the top (so would we call that a forehead?) vs on the bottom. I'm used to a Note 5 with the capacitive buttons on the bottom so I'd want the on-screen buttons as low as possible. Plus I feel like the selfie camera would be awkward in the lower corner because you could easily cover it up with your hand when touching the screen to take a selfie...granted I take about 1 selfie a year, but it still would be less convenient compared to being up top in my opinion.

Did you say "copied from APPLE"...do mention and give due credits to Blackberry for that first..they had this long ago when BB OS was a thing. Apple "INSPIRED" by BB gestures ...LOL..how conveniently ppl forget...

And Palm OS had gestures as well. But since both are no longer relevant, I doubt Xiaomi looked at those OSes for inspiration. Also, BB OS didn't have that gesture for showing recent apps, it's not a copy of their OS https://developer.blackberry.com/design/bb10/gestures.html But hey the Abacus had swiping first, let's give them some credit too.

They didn't need it. Their home screen was their recent apps.

So the home screen only shows apps that are running in the background?

Read that Sir, they have it there and i am own a BB Passport as well as iphone X (have a note 8 too - so am not a biased person in any way) personally so i can vouch for it myself. Also there are several articles out there if you want proof- Search on Google : "Blackberry + Swipe up"

They have swipe up to wake up, they have swipe up to go the home screen. But there is NO swipe up and hold to show the running apps. Which iPhone X has and was shown in the video Xiaomi uses as well. And I looked it up for the passport.https://help.blackberry.com/en/blackberry-passport-series/current/help/mes1335535802053.html

Who would have thought out of all the OEM's, Xiaomi comes up with something original. They were the number 1 Apple copycats and now they are setting the trend. Awesome job guys, now please work on a stock International rom plus International availability.

Its not surprising considering the original Mi Mix set the trend of these bezelless phones. All other bezelless phones started coming out afterwards

Xiaomi is throwing everything in the Mix 2s. And I laud them for not being a copycat. I like what they did with the notch. I might just get 1 for myself. Well done Xiaomi.

Side bezels too thick. Seems Mi Mix design have gotten worse since Mi Mix 1.
