Will Apple offer both a 2K and 4K version of the Apple iPad Pro?
A few days ago, we passed along the speculation that Apple is working on a 12.9 inch tablet called the Apple iPad Pro. The rumor even included an October launch for the slate. On Friday, some further details about the tablet leaked in a published report out of China. The latest buzz around the water cooler is that the iPad Pro will sport a 4K display. The report alleges that a prototype of the tablet has been built in Cupertino with a 2K resolution, while a 4K variant of the slab would incorporate a resolution of  4096 x 3072.

Friday's report also included some new speculation about a launch date for the Apple iPad Pro. The latest rumor is that the 2K version of the tablet will launch in April while the 4K model will hit the market in October.

Apple could feel compelled to boost the resolution sharply on a larger-screened version of its tablet for a couple of reasons. First, the larger size of the screen calls for a jump in resolution. Secondly, Apple might want to fight back against the competition. The Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 features a resolution of 2560 x 1600 on an 8.9 inch glass, giving it nearly 1 million more pixels than Apple's current full-sized tablet, the Apple iPad Air.
