Will Apple offer both a 2K and 4K version of the Apple iPad Pro?
A few days ago, we passed along the speculation that Apple is working on a 12.9 inch tablet called the Apple iPad Pro. The rumor even included an October launch for the slate. On Friday, some further details about the tablet leaked in a published report out of China. The latest buzz around the water cooler is that the iPad Pro will sport a 4K display. The report alleges that a prototype of the tablet has been built in Cupertino with a 2K resolution, while a 4K variant of the slab would incorporate a resolution of  4096 x 3072.

Friday's report also included some new speculation about a launch date for the Apple iPad Pro. The latest rumor is that the 2K version of the tablet will launch in April while the 4K model will hit the market in October.

Apple could feel compelled to boost the resolution sharply on a larger-screened version of its tablet for a couple of reasons. First, the larger size of the screen calls for a jump in resolution. Secondly, Apple might want to fight back against the competition. The Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 features a resolution of 2560 x 1600 on an 8.9 inch glass, giving it nearly 1 million more pixels than Apple's current full-sized tablet, the Apple iPad Air.

Thats the best theyve got? They wont even exist in the future. Party is over and they have no motivation due to that large pile of cash. Instead of using it for r and d, they are pulling a Blackberry and living off past earnings. We all know that money will disappear as demand weakens. That part has already arrived.

I doubt about 2K because iPad almost has it currently. 4K with 4:3 resolution cannot be ruled out. It is a toss-up whether Apple goes for 4:3 for App compatibility or Ultra HD 16:9 for TV resolution compatibility. I prefer Ultra HD resolution.

Holding a tablet 1.5 feet away from your face, with a 13" screen, still needs more than 1080p resolution? Ridiculous. This is turning into the "Megapixels" craze that digital cameras went through

ok now they just need to create an OSX tablet version Mavericks and this will be SICK! i just can't see apple keeping the phone/tablet iOS thing going on with a 12.9 inch tablet calling it a "pro" after the MacPro. especially with the popularity the surface is getting.

I doubt they'll go for the 16:9 aspect ratio on iPads.

I would love for this day to come so that Windows manufacturers step up their game including Microsoft. I was close to buy a surface pro...but I just think Microsoft could have done a lot better.

4:3 aspect ratio is good for reading e-books. 16:9 leaves black spaces when I read e-book. But, 4:3 is not good for watching movies.

The better question is will they offer at least 2 gigs of ram in future iProducts? Baby steps people. This is Apple were talking about.

Because we need 4k displays and 6 gb of ram in our android phones with an abysmal battery life right ?! ..but hey...it's worth nothing for bragging rights to say that faux leather crap Yr holding in hand still lags even with 6 gigs of ram...

My iPhone 5s lagged as well when using Safari and I had nothing but low memory crashes within diagnostics. It’s time to stop pretending that iPhones/iOS is perfect when it’s not. I have no regrets trading it in for a Note 3 and I should have never left Android. You iOS fanboys talk a good game and when one switches over the truth comes right out. The only positives of owning the 5s was that touchid worked and the resell value was good.

So if I dislike you're precious 'sammy' that makes me a ios fanboy ?! Hopeless.. P.s. there are android phones that look and feel premium and don't lagg !

He is just hating lol. I highly doubt his 5s was lagging using Safari. My 5s hasn't lagged what so ever. Using Safari... SAFARI!! Lol. Let him make up stories to make his enemy product look bad. The statement about the Note 3 lagging with what is packing inside however is true. As much as I love the Note 3, and how amazing it is, I was surprised when finding this out from my friends brothers N3, and reading various reports about that issue, now including the above statement lol.

I don't comment much but I have to reply. I am actually fortunate to own and use the iPhone 5S and the GS4. I don't consider myself a fanboy as I equally like both phones for different reasons. With that said, when it comes to lag, I frequently experience a lot of lag on my GS4 with it freezing, being slow, etc. I'm addition, I need to continuously manually close apps to "speed it up". I have yet to experience this issue on my iPhone. I have at least ten apps running in the background and my phone still runs fast with no lag.

I belive apples is trying to do a pro and aiR similar to the surface rt and pro. Galaxy tab pro is a worthless junk... The pro on the galaxy tab stands for brainwashing people more into believing they buy something better. I also belive the pro in the ipad will stand for haswell and full os x ( or whatever they call it..).

Pro and air are named according their MacBook. It didn't follow samsung or Microsoft at all

Yes. However unlike the MacBook scheme...the ipads will use different software Hence my comparison to Microsoft. I hope this clarifies. I wasn't trying to make a point of who copied who...just to open the path to a deluded human being

Because that worked so well for MS... Seriously though, if anyone can make it work, it's Apple. They have the marketing aptitude that MS severely lacks.

in short, probably not

It will be more expensive if they put 4k screens

they will also probably stick with retina as it works for them and focus more on iOS

Keep in mind, that the Macbook Pro came out with 2880x1800. Still among the highest res displays made available for a laptop. The cost of the Macbook Air is not justifiable for a more expensive screen. Although the manufacturing cost of an iPad Pro version would be less than a BOM of $400-$450 total with a 4k screen. Thus profit margins are much higher over the Macbook Air.

MSI makes a gaming laptop with 2880x1620.
