Vivo NEX 3 5G video teaser shows waterfall screen, pop up selfie camera and more

Vivo is one of those innovative Chinese smartphone manufacturers that push the envelope of smartphone design. And while most U.S. consumers are not familiar with the brand, in China it was the third most popular smartphone manufacturer during the second quarter. And now the company has released a video teaser promoting the third generation of its sleek NEX line (which will support 5G connectivity) and released more information about the phone on Weibo (via Gadgets360).

First, let's discuss what we can see in the video. It appears that the phone will sport a waterfall display with two curved sides that drop almost straight down. Circles seem to be in this year in China, and the triple-camera setup is housed in a circular-shaped module on the rear panel. The primary sensor is said to weigh in at 64MP. And the NEX 3 5G will be equipped with a popup selfie camera which should allow for a high screen-to-body-ratio. In addition, the phone will offer 44W fast charging and feature a 3.5mm earphone jack.

The Vivo NEX 3 5G will be unveiled next month, and you won't find it on the shelves of any carrier or electronics retailer in the states. Still, it is always a good idea to see what the trends are coming out of China. So it would appear that waterfall screens and circular camera modules (also tipped for the OnePlus 7T Pro) could be heading for America later this year and throughout 2020.

Vivo is the catalyst of top tier manufacturers to push themselves interms of technological innovations and iterations...! Evey1 got almost caught up with full screen displays and now they r starting the trend of increasing the screen beyond 100%... now Samsung and apple has to expose their already developed devices like that at right time... I'm some1 who believes these full screen displays had been made long time ago but they jus revealing it step by step just for the sake of marketting strategy...

I'm really tempted to buy this to replace my NexS, but the waterfall screen and 5G are the two things that give me hesitation. First, I prefer a flat screen. Second, and more importantly, no one really knows which 5G bands the various telcos around the world will be deploying and the compatibility of the new 5G phones. Looks like I'll hang on to my NexS for another year and see what 2020 brings.

If I am not wrong Vivo uses Samsung screens. There must be a reason why Samsung does not want to push screens with popup camera in their mainline flagships. May be they are not durable enough. So they tested it with A series and once matured you will see them in flagships. Or Samsung would wait for under the display camera before adding it to the flagships. I am perfectly fine with S10 small hole punch. its not something you notice. Small dew drop notches are also ok. But huge ass notches like one on the most popular phone on the planet have to change. That will take few years for sure.

You obviously know nothing about the Nex series. Go back to your iPhone articles.

Vivo Nex is a shoddy quality smartphone so the Vivo Nex 3 will be. I don't care about the plethora of features if the build quality is fragile.

They aren't getting enough praise for making the phone what it is WITH a headphone jack. Vivo and Asus are going to be consumer favourites in the future
