Verizon to get Motorola branded Android device in the 4th quarter?
Back in April, we wrote about an interesting looking device from Motorola. The Calgary is a CDMA phone equipped with Android. The Street has just been tipped by a anonymous Motorola employee that the Schaumburg based company is planning on shipping a handset to Verizon in the 4th quarter that will run on Google's open source OS. If we put 2 plus 2 together, we can get the idea that the Calgary could be the handset that the anonymous Moto worker is whispering about. The rumored device has a full QWERTY keyboard (like the Calgary), but not much else is known about it. As we get closer to the 4th quarter of the year, we're sure that more info on the phone will pop up.

It's not news. Phonearena should read there forums sometimes. I've been mentioning this for weeks now in posts. Samsung and Motorola Android phone are coming in 4th quarter. Both should also have LTE on them as well.

You are full of it to say those phones will have LTE too

The phones have to have LTE because in order for Verizon to get Android based phones the LTE chipsets have to be in place. Verizon is not allowed to be part of the Open Handset Alliance otherwise. Thus why the LTE, wether they use or turn on the LTE feature or turn it on in an upgrade is up to Verizon. Yes it will, the chipsets that my company manufacturers were bought and produced from my company over a month ago. Samsung and Motorola both did a purchase. I mentioned it in older posts. Who do you think tips off phonearena now and then? You'll eat my words when you see the Blitz Replacement and the Samsung Rouge for Verizon come out next month. Rouge I believe is 08/15 if I remember correctly. :)

Oh, I didn't mention the Blitz replacement name. It's "Razzle" btw and should be hitting VZW 08/31. Make sure when you think I'm not in the "know", think of me... when you see the way it swivels. Just giving ya a hard time. You'll see both those devices soon. I'm pretty reliable source DonLouie. So yeah... "Cough cough, Blackberry Onyx for ATT early december". Did you hear something? :)

I'm getting some stuff over to PhoneArena tonight after I get home. It's going to be a long day, I still have a ton of paperwork to do. But I'll get it out to them tonight and I'm sure they'll post soon. If not tomorrow for you guys.

I hope this is going to happen, I have a dare and want something more, but not Winmo or BB. My only concern is that Verizon will cripple it and only allow certain apps to run, like from their app store or limit access to the andriod marketplace. The other question I am wondering about is will they treat the phone as a "smarphone" and require a an expensive data plan or can the $15 Vpak be used.

I don't think this will be treated as a smartphone. Of course I could be wrong, but it doesn't seem like it.

Phone is a smartphone so it will be treated as such. Smartphone OS is pretty much left alone. So $30 minimum Data plan and you will use Android marketplace

Of course it'll be a smartphone, if it's not a VZW UI, chances are it's going to be considered a smartphone.

The only problem I have with the data plan is its madatory. I like choices. When I wifi 90% of the time, why should I get data. Let the economy get much worse they'll change that or lose a whole lot of customers. Well, the college kids in my family, when it was time to get new phones last year said screw that I'm switching carriers. All but 2 did that, they said I don't need a PDA and I'm not the 1 paying the bill. As for me, when my contract is up, I'm gone. You wont make me pay for soething I really don't use much at all.

its to prevent cheap consumers like you from buying a device you cant really afford...If you cant afford 29.99 for data, than you can't afford a 300$ phone, if you cant afford that, than your defenatley not getting insurance, if you dont get insurance you cant afford to pay 500$ for a replacement because you dropped it....Then you call Verizon or At&t bi***ing and moaning about how irrisponsible you are and how its all our fault and your broke phone and you hate the world and its all our fault and stupid data plan and your life sucks and someone in your family is dieing and you have cancer....Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah..I hear it all the time....quit complaining about a data plan because your on prepaid and get a real job and a real phone...and take a Midol for God's sakes

And if you use the phone 90% of the time in wifi, you know what that means? 10% of the time you're using the network, so let's say for instance you use... a modest 50 MBs of data each month. 10% of that is 5 MBs using the regular network. At $.015/kb, that means you're paying $76.80, and #12's argument comes into play about how it's our fault that you used data without a package.

Your such an ASS Hole. You must work for verizon. Number one, I have two phones. A company and a personal one. The personal was 379 and the work one was 569.Samsung Omnia and Nokia N96. And its not nice to assume things. If I wanted to, I could pay off all of you fools debt and thats a fact. In fact, I have Att and they dont make data a must. And they have way more PDA's vs Verizon. One more thing, I'll buy what ever I want and the extra, dump it if I want U Cunt.

First of all, I don't even use the shit. Second, its very slow compared to wifi. Thirdly, its not a necessity, but I like the phone. Finally, this is America where we have choices not demands. When my one year contract is up, I'm sticking with the Att service where I use unlocked phones with out all that crapware where Verizon is twice as bad with it. I love the freedom so put that in your pipe and smoke it.

only problem with this is that most all carriers now require a data plan with any newly purchased phone/ or activation, whether it has WI-Fi or not.

sinfulta, what is this Shules Android phone that I have been hearing about? Do you have any news on that? So were looking at the Omnia II, Storm 2 and the Calgary all during the Holidays. VZW is going to bank this Christmas.
