Unannounced Sony D6603 caught running Android KitKat, remains surrounded by mystery

Sony D6603 is an unannounced handset that first appeared on our radar in February - before the official unveiling of the Xperia Z2 (model number D65xx). Now, the D6603 is in the news again, as a screenshot taken from its About screen allegedly showed up somewhere in China.

According to the new screenshot, the D6603 runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat. A previously leaked screenshot of a benchmark test suggested that the smartphone had features similar to what the Xperia Z2 is offering: a 1080p display, 20.7MP rear camera, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 (8974-AB) processor, and 16GB of internal memory. There was a difference in the RAM department, though: 2GB instead of 3GB.

There's no word on what the D6603 looks like, so it's impossible to tell if the handset's design is similar to that of the Z2.

Earlier this month, we heard that a Sony Xperia Z2 Compact might be in the making. Could this be related to the D6603? We can’t know for now, but we’re hoping to hear more on this soon.

I'm guessing it does come with 3gb, and it is the z2. There's no way they could be working on another phone when their current flagship can't even be made. You dun messed up Sony

Yes, please Sony, IMO the Z1 C is too small, the Z2 is too big Sony need a flagship in the meddle

Agreed, 4.7" screen is just about right (for me at least).

IMO I like 4.7" as a minimum (preferably ~5"), I wouldn't mind a 5.2+", I just prefer phones being smaller than ~135 x ~70 mm (perfect IMO would be 125-130 mm tall)

you should by now have known how sony fan's brain function. They live on assumptions and optimistic expectation. In their book, Sony"s devices are the ultimate smartphones, in every single category they are the best.

True, but it's also true of almost every other OEM fanboys out there. Especially the Nokia ones.

I don't think the Z3 will be a moster. As you can see this year there is not much we haven't seen or innovative in the latest flagships so I doubt there will be something within 6 months.

well, in Europe Sony is all over the place, so blame those US carriers for just selling Galaxshiit and iPhones

This has way more to do with Sony than the carriers

no, it actually has a lot to do with carriers and people in america who just follow the crowd. If you wanted an xperia, you can go on their website right now and buy one full price.

23. papss unregistered

Yes but I wouldn't get full lte on at&t so its of no use to me. If pantec can put a phone on att don't tell me sony couldn't. Its just them being lazy

Wrong. Papss is right. Considering the fact that Sony has yet to make a CMDA smartphone since they split with Ericsson, it has quite a bit to do with them. Verizon & Sprint, the 1st & 3rd largest carriers in the U.S. respectively, couldn't sell not compatible with their networks.

Guess your crying Sony doesn't make windows phones...

15. papss unregistered

That would be nice but unlike yourself I can/do actually buy many phones per year including android.. But yes I prefer WP to the others but what does that have to do with my comments regarding Sony not applying themselves and getting their phones on all carriers? Or are you just a pathetic fandroid that has nothing better to say?
