T-Mobile rolling out Android 9 Pie update for the Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+
UPDATE (2/13/2019): T-Mobile has just resumed the Android 9 Pie roll-out, so if you own a Galaxy S9 or S9+, you can now check and see whether or not the update is available for download.
UPDATE (2/11/2019): T-Mobile has just announced that the update is now on hold due to some last-minute issues that have been found. We'll update the story once T-Mobile gives the update the green light, so stick around if you own a Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+.
Besides bringing both Samsung flagships to Android 9.0 Pie, the update also adds support for advanced messaging options like RCS (Rich Communication Services). The latter is meant to replace the SMS and MMS standards by enabling users to share images, videos, sound clips, emoji, and stickers, just like traditional messaging apps such as Messenger and WhatsApp.
Moreover, RCS Messaging supports group chats, audio and video calls, locations sharing, read receipts, as well as other complex messaging features.
Now, if you own a T-Mobile Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9+, you'll have to make sure that you have enough free storage to upgrade your phone's software since the update weighs in at around 1.9GB. It's also worth mentioning that your data stored on the phone should be safe, which means you're not required to make any backups.
