Sony reveals launch dates and pricing in the U.S. for the Xperia XZ and Xperia X Compact
Sony announced today that the unlocked Sony Xperia X Compact will be available in the U.S. starting on September 25th, priced at $499.99; the unlocked Sony Xperia XZ will launch in the states on October 2nd, carrying a price tag of $699.99. The phones, which will work with GSM carriers like AT&T and T-Mobile, will be offered by Amazon, Best Buy and other retailers.
Sony has enhanced the multimedia capabilities of the Xperia XZ. The rear-facing 23MP camera features triple image sensing technology, which combines Laser Autofocus, Predictive Hybrid Autofocus and RGBC Infrared sensors. In addition, with the world's first 5-axis video stabilization technology to be found inside a smartphone, you can be a heavy coffee drinker and still take steady 4K videos.
The Xperia XZ also has a stereo dual microphone system with noise cancellation. This results in high quality sound to match the high quality images produced by the handset. The unit carries a Gorilla Glass 4 protected 5.2-inch screen with a 1080 x 1920 resolution. The Snapdragon 820 SoC powers the device, equipped with a quad-core 2.15GHz CPU and the Adreno 530 GPU. 3GB of RAM is inside along with 32GB of native storage (20GB available to the user). A 13MP wide angle selfie snapper is on board, and the whole shebang is powered by a 2900mAh battery. Android 6.0 is pre-installed.
The Xperia X Compact has all the same camera, video and audio features as the Xperia XZ, but in a smaller body. The Gorilla Glass 4 protected 4.6-inch display has a 720 x 1280 resolution. A Snapdragon 650 chipset is under the hood, carrying a hexa-core 1.8GHz CPU and the Adreno 510 GPU. A 2700mAh battery keeps the lights on.
Both models have an IP68 certification rating for dust and water resistance.
