Sony has theme changing app aimed at experienced developers
The other day we showed you a new feature coming to HTC Sense 7 that allows you to build you own theme from a photograph taken with your HTC phone. You will see wallpapers based on your photo, and color options for your apps and BlinkFeed will appear, also based on the picture you've snapped. Now, Sony has an app that offers Xperia users the ability to create their own themes. But unlike the one on Sense, Sony's app is aimed at experienced developers.

The Sony Theme Creator app installs on a PC and when used with an image editor like Photoshop, gives you the ability to customize over 300 different assets. The app is currently in Beta. With it, you can create wallpaper, icons, buttons and more. Other features include an Adobe Photoshop template, an editor with an instant preview function and one-click APK export.

The app is made for developers with the focus on building professional looking themes. A professional looking theme can help you promote your skill as a designer. Certain themes will be displayed by Sony on Theme Picker and on Sony's What's New recommendation service. Both are seen by millions of Xperia users. All you need to do is send an email to Sony with your theme's name and a link to it, once it is published.

You can learn more about this feature by clicking on the video slideshow below.

This is like a reinvention of the theme editor available for the old Sony Ericsson phones. It was great fun playing around with that a decade or so ago. Talk about keeping it up!

Instead of spending time and resources on this app they should be working on providing their customer with Lollipop update which they promised to deliver in Feb.

I still find it funny that one of the worlds best camera makers can't make their phone cameras take as good photos as Apple/Samsung This is also while Sony usually have a better sensor than Apple/Samsung

And the irony is, some major phone maker are using Sony sensor for their camera, such as Apple iPhone 4s, Google/LG Nexus 4 and currently the latest Samsung S6. Some of them even take good photo compare to the photo taken by Sony smartphone camera.

Yep their auto mode is just ok. They should improve it fast. And the iphonr 4/5/5s/6/6plus, s3/s4/note4 also use sony sensors. Sony uses better sensors on their own phones but the lack of a good auto mode kills it for over 90% of phone users which just shoot with auto mode. Their phones make 8mp pictures in automode so the 20.7mp isn't used by allot of the users. The lossless zoom is the only thing that is good, Lowlight shots are better than average in automode.

I'm sure you must have been very disappointed with Sony, maybe that is why you're always trying to find something bad about Sony and always praised Samsung. I hope I did not experience the same thing like you and I'm very grateful because my Z3 never disappoint me. Currently samsung is bragging the design on their GS6 and if i'm a fan of samsung I would be a little disappointed because according to gsmarena calculation is my Z3 has better screen ratio than GS6 and there is also no removeable battery, SD Card slot, and big battery. You don't have to bother to tell me what Sony needs to do because i have sent a list of improvements that i want for my Z3 directly to Sony mobile.

I'm no good with programming but I am good with graphics, so this is exactly what I'm looking for. I can change the look to exactly what I want now.

Firstly, if you are such a die hard follower of me, you'd read on the same posts that I've criticized Samsung equally for the lack of MicroSD slot. TBH, I wouldn't care too much in screen to body ratio which differs only by few percentage but you also need to consider Samsung provides a physical button with finger print scanner while Z3 has on-screen buttons. Larger battery means nothing, its the battery life that counts. Secondly, making Samsung look bad won't make Z3 better. Z3 was a marginal upgrade from Z2 with stale UI and same design language used four 4 generations. The lack of software updates isn't helping either. They refuse to change inspite of failing business whereas Samsung addressed all its criticisms from the last year design and UI both. Its also a significant upgrade from GS5. Lastly, I couldn't care less what do YOU want and what you don't. I am talking in general sense. If you or other Sony fans can't take a criticism its not really my fault. If you want silly apps instead of updates good for you but that doesn't mean they have the right to back track from their promise.

LOL....a guy named 'Rexperia' is accusing me of fanboism....Nice BTW, Thanks for proving my point. Sony fans really can't take a criticism against their beloved brand.

Let me tell you why some people accusing you with fanboism because with Sony you focusing your comment on the negative things but you not doing that with Samsung. Sony is currently in trouble this time and they were trying their best to get up, but Samsung is also in trouble even if the problem is not as big as Sony. Samsung can't beat Apple and they are also under threat from Chinese manufacturers who sometimes able to make a phone with a better design, cheaper prices and specifications are just as good.

I am a Sony fan i normally criticize their SA mode and UI in many comments. I agree with you regarding the updates and this critics. But you need to accept that, not only Sony fans, die hard fans of any brand won't digest the critics of their brands. They are not aware that critics makes the product better. Sammy fans criticized others for non removable battery. They criticized apple for non expandable storage. Now Samsung ditched removable battery and micro SD slot and follows apple's path ( I am talking about these two points not design or something). Will you criticize samsung if the pricing of S6 also follows apple? (charging $100 for 32GB to 64 GB upgrade).

Relax you're not that special enough for me to follow you because you're not the only one sorry if I let you down. I just often see your negative comments on Sony articles, But at the same time you look more tolerate the bad things on samsung devices. We all know Samsung has been known for dirty tricks which often denigrate their competitors. For physical button and finger print scaner we all know those two things can be placed in one place so it will not take up extra space, but you can't do that with stereo speakers. I don't need to do this "making Samsung look bad" because for me Z3 is already better than GS5. I never use the Z2 or any other xperia phones before so I'm not too concerned with what they are doing with the phone from previous generation (Do not worry they have learned from experience that's why we do not see Z4 in the MWC.) As far as I know they are one of the fastest on 4.4.4 kitkat update. I also have no problem with their UI and themes on their mobile phones make my phone look fresh and not boring. For me lossing sd card slot, IP certification, removeable cover and battery is significant downgrade from GS5. If you're Xperia users i will be able to accept your criticisms and consider it as an input. Do not get me wrong I also wanted a fast update for my Z3 but as long my Z3 still able to function properly and all apps/games that I use run well i'm not going to complain like a fanboy. I'm sure to provide updates for 12 devices plus a few different versions is not easy. That's why I still give my understanding to Sony and are willing to wait a little longer without having to complain excessively. Silly apps lol... Themes is one of the things that make my phone look fresh and not boring. It is important so that users can gain much better experience with Xperia. This application makes it easy for me to create a theme and with the help of developers I am sure in the future I can make a theme that will change the overall appearance.
