Sony Xperia Z2 available for only $599 on eBay

Sony Xperia Z2 available for only $599 on eBay
If you want to buy the Sony Xperia Z2 in the US, you have only a few options at the moment, as the handset hasn’t been released via any carrier. There are some retailers that can sell you an unlocked Z2 for around $700, which may seem a bit much (it’s more than the official US price of the Xperia Z2 Tablet anyway).

Luckily, the Z2 is now available for just $599 on eBay, although only for a limited period of time. Unlike other sellers that you may find offering the Z2 on eBay, the one that’s selling the smartphone for $599 is based in the US. The deal is good for the next 18 hours, so you still have a bit of time to decide whether or not to buy the Z2 from this source. All three color versions of the handset are available: black, white, and purple.

According to a previous rumor, Verizon might want to launch the Xperia Z2 in the US at some point. We’ll let you know if that happens. In the meantime, you can check out our Sony Xperia Z2 review here.

Dang cell companies jack up the prices of unlocked phones just to make people buy on-contract. there's no reason even a high end smartphone should cost as much as a decent laptop

All carriers want to lock you in for a period of time. That's a given. A lot of people don't realize that they could save money in the long run if they bought the smartphone at full price. When you own the smartphone, now carriers know that you can leave them at any point in time. So they will give you a better deal. BTW the Z2 is a sweet smartphone.

Hmmm I wouldn't be buying one of ebay even @ $599, especially if it doesn't have a fully fledged return guarantee. XDA reports that most units with build dates from W1 to W17 have major defects like cameras off centre, gaps around the glass as it was seated unevenly, as well as white bright spots in the LCD panel and headphones not working.. Not good for a Flagship phone from Sony....

Why Sony is not selling these phones themselves on Sony's US website for $599 (or less) escapes me. I'm ambivalent on the Z2, but if I weren't, I'd still find it difficult to spend $600 on eBay on a product with no US warranty from Sony and a $150 restocking fee.

eBay is a great place for phone enthusiasts who don't care about warranties and are willing to pay over msrp for new imports. That said, this $600 deal is not that bad for a UK model. This seller is located in the US, has a good return policy and excellent seller rating. Sony will probably launch this phone for at least $650 in the US. I paid > $850 around two months ago and mine even didn't have any return policy. I never received any phone with defects from eBay sellers and I always shop from the sellers with lots of good ratings.

@0xFFFF Very intelligent comment I can, and do, agree with. Didn't find your comment on the last thread... Z2, S5, G3, or M8?

I didn't make a comment as I don't have a strong preference for any of the current phones. Z2 -- Overall good phone. The water resistance is nicely integrated into the design and has a shutter button. Camera is good and Sony is doing some interesting things with noise cancellation. Downside for me is the lack of physical buttons and the inadequate headphone amp/output. S5 -- A solid phone, but I have a Note 3 and have grown unfond of AMOLED. I find AMOLED is pretty good for movies and pictures, but not so great for text and general day to day usage. The S5 also comes locked down on ATT (see $18K root bounty article) and ATT is my preferred carrier due to reception where I live. I do like the hardware buttons as I am very used to them on the Note 3 and two Samsung tablets. Camera is quite good, but low light performance, colors and white balance leave something to be desired. The headphone output is also mediocre, similar to the Note 3. Also wish Samsung included a shutter button. For me, the S5 Active may actually be more appealing than the S5 as it has an LCD screen and a shutter button. G3 -- Another overall good phone. The camera includes OIS and looks quite promising and will likely get better with future software updates. Like the amazing legibility of the QHD screen, but get the feeling this phone was really meant to have an 805 chip with its 20% better energy usage and improved graphics performance. Also not a fan of on-screen buttons or "buttons on back". Don't know about the headphone output, but the G2 was quite poor in this regard. M8 -- A really nice phone letdown by the terrible 4MP camera and gimmick duo camera design. HTC would have had much more of a winner had they put in the same 13MP OIS camera as the G3 and kept the size (especially the height) under control better. I would also prefer three physical buttons, even if they are capacative, so screen real estate is not wasted. I really like how the HTC is developer/user friendly with htcdev.com and has not followed Samsung's lead in making phones unmodifiable. And it's great that HTC included a high quality headphone amp, so the M8 can drive many high quality headphones. Maybe the residual noise level is not quite "inky black", but the M8 is the best Android phone for headphone output (not counting Vivo's latest as I don't know much about them). So I am in a waiting period. There are a lot of interesting phones coming out in the second half of 2014 and I get the feeling this is when I'll find a phone that has a stronger appeal than what's out today.

I'm very interested in this phone, but I'd rather wait and see if any U.S. Carrier picks it up soon; if it doesn't I might just have to wait for the IPhone 6.

If I may say, eBay sucks, and why would anyone pay $600 for this phone?

This is NOT the first price drop of Xperia Z2 phone on eBay in one week! It only means that Sony is offering the US version of Xperia Z2 on its online store very soon!... I wouldn't buy it from eBay.....Soon it will be on Sony US store :)

By the way, sony's price for any new flagship phone always go around $600 (with financing also) and eBay sellers are just trying to sell as much as they can before they have to sell it way cheaper than sony's price when it becomes available for the US. (Otherwise no one is going to leave Sony online store and buy from eBay!)
