Back in September, we told you about Snapchat's first hardware product called Spectacles. These are plastic sunglasses with a video camera embedded near the right lens. A button by the hinge allows 10-seconds of video to be shot. Press three times for a maximum 30-seconds to be recorded, and the battery runs all day. Videos can be sent wirelessly to smartphones and from there, dispatched to social media.

Today, the glasses went on sale via a single vending machine in Venice. Priced at $129.99, buyers used the credit card reader on the machine to make their purchases. The vending machine will move from location to location, staying in one place for only 24 hours at a time. A screen on the machine uses AR to give you an idea of what the Spectacles will look like on your face. There is a limit of two glasses per customer.

With no advance notice, word of mouth kept the lines long throughout the day. Eventually, the glasses sold out which means that those interested in purchasing them will have to go online to to find out where the vending machine will be tomorrow. If you must have a pair of Spectacles and you don't mind paying top dollar for them, they are available on eBay priced at $600 to as high as $980.

Actress, voice-over star and talk show host Ellen Degeneres picked up a pair and tried them on. Check out the results by clicking on the video at the top of this story.
