Snapchat's sold out Spectacles now offered on eBay for as much as $980 a pair
Back in September, we told you about Snapchat's first hardware product called Spectacles. These are plastic sunglasses with a video camera embedded near the right lens. A button by the hinge allows 10-seconds of video to be shot. Press three times for a maximum 30-seconds to be recorded, and the battery runs all day. Videos can be sent wirelessly to smartphones and from there, dispatched to social media.
Today, the glasses went on sale via a single vending machine in Venice. Priced at $129.99, buyers used the credit card reader on the machine to make their purchases. The vending machine will move from location to location, staying in one place for only 24 hours at a time. A screen on the machine uses AR to give you an idea of what the Spectacles will look like on your face. There is a limit of two glasses per customer.
Actress, voice-over star and talk show host Ellen Degeneres picked up a pair and tried them on. Check out the results by clicking on the video at the top of this story.
