Smoked by Windows Phone challenge taken to the streets of London, courtesy of Nokia
The Smoked by Windows Phone challenge may not be what one would call fair, but we must admit that it is one cleverly engineered marketing campaign. Sure enough, Nokia decided to follow suit and came up with its own version of the challenge. The streets of London were the battleground and a Nokia Lumia 800 was the weapon of choice.

As expected, the rules of the Lumia Challenge were pretty similar to what we have seen before: updating a social network status, getting driving directions, posting photos online, finding a particular song, the usual stuff. Whoever managed to accomplish such an every day task with their phone faster than the Nokia Lumia 800 could win ₤10.

Of course, you don't see anyone claiming the ten quid in the video, just several iPhone owners who "lost to a Lumia". Still, they got a  ₤50 voucher, which could be used towards a purchase of a Nokia Lumia smartphone. Whether any of the people who lost will actually use it is anyone's guess. Now feel free to check out the Lumia Challenge video below, and do not hesitate to tell us what you think about it in the comments.

Excuse me PA, :-) Every company trains their employees because they don't wanna loose 100$ or a Laptop from every customer... And believe it that WP is way faster than Android because Androids are Slow or if not then they get slower in time. Be it Dual Core or Quad Core but My Lumia Never hung since the day I bought it.

PA guys are very negative about windows phone.they often speak negative about MS and Nokia and Wp. they may sometimes even hide a news which is in great favor of wp...... the only reason they do speak about this platform is comment is going to get deleted.

They'd hide it But this is true that they Highlight Android and iPhone more than the requirement and you just get to read only 2 or 4 articles about WP or Nokia whereas 7 to9 Useless articles about iOS & Android.

lol, my SGS2 is almost 4 months old and the only time it hung was due to a poorly built illegal market app...So no, it didn't get slower. Maybe the WP doesn't get slower because there are no apps to take up space to make it slower?

They're doing an Advertisment to gain customers not to loose the money from every customer. So every Company does it. Its nothing New..

Nokia employees have been told to run in fear if they are smoked challenged by a person with a Galaxy nexus!!! On the other hand it really isnt a good idea for Nokia to have people see the notorious ugly and bland windows ui side by side against say sombody with an android phone set up with a lovely live wallpapers and ui etc as one of the big gripes people have with windows is the awful styling of that grid, its one of the principle reasons sales are so bad

Your a rare breed so,out of 100 customers id demo the two type of smartphone to youd be the only one that buy the windows the other 70 would buy the android and the last 29 probably an iphone. Our monthly sales figures and stock takes show this trend regularly

not a rare breed at all? the mass of people buy from popularity, not what they actually like. do you know anything about marketing? ask an entire high school what phone they want, 99% will say iphone because everyone else has one. most people dont even know what UI means, or what the actual difference in an OS is. windows came in late thus the slow market gain and demand for their phones. the metro UI is beautiful and its OS is far superior to androids fragmented s**t. and i own and android only because verizon wont get off their A$$ and get high end model windows phone, not because their junk, but because there isnt a demand for them yet... this will change when win8 releases. oh and out of 100 people, 70 will buy android because 98% of your inventory is android,, 29 will but iphone because their is only one iphone, and 1 will buy windows phone because carriers like verizxon and sprint have only one windows phone. thats statistics, not factual marketing info

I dont work for any of those networks and we have stocked several different models of windows phones but to no avail. at the moment we stock 4 different models but cant sell any,its os not handset or manufacturer which is the decisive factor

so you are one of few carriers to stock 4 windows phones. compared to how many androids? exactly...

And with people like you hating certain phones, it's not likely your store will sell more of those, is it? If you work as a store clerk you should know you have a responsibility to be unbiased and objective. Saying "notoriously ugly" about WP and "lovely live wallpapers" about Android is hardly objective. Grow up and take your responsibility seriously.

Oh, not to worry, if I find Android UI ugly, I could install espier launcher for the iPhone UI. Still ugly? Launcher 7 for WP UI. Still ugly, I could try the dozen of other launchers available... Ugly UI is a really lousy excuse for hating Android...

btw launcher is only a theme, not an actual OS. it is still choppy fragmented, and android. i speak from experience because i use launcher 7 and uber music to emulate the windows UI, but it is no where near as smooth or reliable.

Customers want performance; in speed, battery life and so on. The multi core race is not for every one and btw Nokia is just getting in, give em time!

SOmeone that have trained för the challenge vs random users that doing it for first time, after a short explanation and how fair is it uh? Let the random user, pick the task and then we see how fast wp7 are. That is a real challenge!

These challenges doesn't prove that Nokia Lumia 800 is better device than any other smartphone! They just shows that Nokia Lumia 800 has some comfortable apps for current challenges. I even can bet that other latest smartphones with similar apps as Nokia Lumia 800 has, would be faster than Nokia Lumia 800...

this is because of lightness of wp os than ios and android os

windows ui is ugly and the os itself is slow, the slowness is hidden behind those pretty transitions just like ios. the ui is also nothing but colored tiles or icons so they can get away with low spec. hardware.

why all the hate, sreiously people? windows makes a very nice OS, it is smooth and reliab;e... if you dont like it fine, but doesnt mean you have to bash it or that it sucks... never seen so many haters... wow, grow up.
