Samsung expanding the software division as its next step to compete in the mobile industry
Samsung will be increasing the ratio of software engineers from 50:50 to 70:30 in the army of employees in its mobile division. It already stepped up efforts by hiring Cyanogen and looking at other ROM modding groups.

Lee Kun-hee, the chairman of Samsung Electronics, rallied his lieutenants recently by saying that the power in IT is shifting from hardware to software, and Samsung needs to be prepared.

That's an almost 50% boost in software engineering power from the current about 25 000 coders, which Samsung is about to undertake, and only showing that it is very serious on executing. If we are about to witness better TouchWiz, Samsung's own cloud project or other goodies, we'd say bring it on.

Fight all you want. The future of entertainment and is Wp integrated with xbox and windows 8.

Really.. So far it sure as hell doesn't look like it. And don't even get me started on Win 8... Whoever though that transforming the Start button into WP7 is a great idea has obviously only used an iPad in his/her entire very short life.

mobile-wise I really do not see WP flourishing. But on tablets and desktops, its another story.

I dunno, chirole. Right now it seems that Win 8 is 95% suited for touchscreens and 5% for mice. I have a laptop. I want a new UI that is suitable for mice as well.

We'll see what you critics have to say coming 2012.

Okay, I've been busy lately - but it appears that the iSheep stupidity has reached a new record. 1 million people pre-ordered an iPhone 4 with a better camera, a slightly better antenna (good luck hitting that 14.4 while still on a 3G network LOL) and another core for the processor. Everything else is completely the same. But what about Siri, you would say? Surely this feature is only exclusive to the iPhone 4S, right? WRONG. It's absolutely a given that Siri WILL be ported at least to the iPhone 4 (both the 4 and the 4S have the same 512 MB of memory reportedly), if not both to the 4 and the 3GS. It's just an upgrade for an existing feature - voice control. 1 Million iSheep. 1 million idiots. And I can't even imagine how many more will follow. Go Samsung - annhilate them!! Wish I were there, watching the faces of the Apple employees lol.

I also want to see the faces of Samsung fans after some people being able to buy the phone for only $2

haha!! yes its a life long sale price of $2 of course, sure its not a short massive pr coup at all by any chance?? It'll be funny to see the faces of iphone 4s buyers paying so much money for a phone which was released a year ago Good thing for islaves with iphone 4s is that can instantly make themselves seem cool and loved again by their friends by claiming their iphone 4 is an iphone 4s,nobody will know the difference!!

Well now that Google owns Motorola, Samsung can no longer hide behind the Android's prowess. And we can all see the true color of it. BADA OS. The crappy BADA OS that Samsung has obviously no capability in obviously developing it. Apple has always the iOS but would Samsung always have Android?!!! WAHAHAHA

Seems a bit expensive.. How many new software concepts can they come up with and implement? More cooks don't necessarily make a better stew!

My thoughts exactly! I was just thinking, with that many people they'll have to create more divisions or segment current ones to keep one engineer off another's toes.

to put it in perspective, everyone drooools over samsung hardware.. right now, they make the best of pretty much everything in the cell industry... but we all complain about their software, updates, ect. So this is definately a good thing.

"More cooks don't necessarily make a better stew!" Hopefully, they will get better/faster at updating their phones. (said the Epic 4G owner;)

Maybe they are going to focus more on Bada?

That was my first guess. Samsung seems bent on turning that into a smartphone OS.

Cyanogen was a massive swoop for Samsung now their phones software is gonna go to yet another level. They now have the best hardware, design, tech and screens by far but also the worlds leading and top os in android coupled with their own top software engineering. Apple just vommited and it all just landed on their islaves who were kneeling at their feet, and who now just bath in the rotten mess. Apple will be seriously worried and will trigger switches in islaves heads to by the iphone 4s no matter how much of a pointless update it is or whether they have the phone already from last year just under the name iphone 4!

FUNNY. top Software Engineering? You mean BADA OS? Samsung has no say with Android as far as I'm concern. The only they add with it is the TouchWiz w/c is nothing short of crappiness. And obviously Samsung is soooo desperate to steal these iSlaves that's why they're making the SGSII only $2!!! WOW

Well if your foolish enough to think that you can be comforted to see that samsung hiring cyanogen (prob the best modder and producer of android roms) means their home software and launcher will progress to no ends. The whole trick selling The worlds highest rated phone a $2 is a funny poke at poor islaves being conned year in year out paying massively over the odds for the same products year in year out when better phones are available for cheaper and faster! Most islaves have to buy a new apple product each year anyhow as the measly one year warranty expires and those thing sure know how to pack up after that!

You obviously have been programmed by apple islave pr and don't see the real picture,Android is now the top os,galaxy s2 is storming the charts as well as other top phone manufacturers and now Samsung is improving the already highly rated phones with cyanogen possibly the best software engineers for phones as well as boosting their own enginneering team If android phones like galaxy s2 are already tops then the next opnes are even further enhanced the the future is green

Samsung doesn't own the Android OS. You're the one who has been programmed. Software-wise, its the BADA that they own. Its the BADA OS you should be comparing with the iOS. Stupid morons. W/o the Android do you even think you'll be getting a Samsung phone?

well of course I know android is samsungs software, any idiot know bada is their home made platform much like Brew of htc. Point was if you were aware enough is that samsung is a big player in the android drive, galaxy ranges, nexus s and nexus prime etc and as a result are a huge android player. Each manufacturer put its own launcher style on top of stock android and as so was pointing out Samsung own software on top of android coupled with its hardware is the worlds leader, now their own software launchers will get even better

are you fuggin stupid? I had many samsung phones before your ihomo and android os came. You prolly did too u dumbfuc. Would you buy apple without ifagos? you dumbfuc ask yourself that.

Im not gonna get into the flame wars here. What I will say is you're racism is highly unwanted. Take it somewhere else bigot.

are u serious?? yellow guys??? sounds like racism and obviously Android phones are way more superior than iphone 4S for example galaxy s2 (4s is only 3.5" screen vs 4.5" screen, 1 ghz dual core processor (4s) vs 1.2 or 1.5 ghz dual core processor, 14.4 mbps (4s) vs 24 or 42 mbps, no external memory slot vs 32GB supported sd card slot and many more!!)

Ironically, Apple outsources it's manufacturing to "yellow" guys (Foxconn), many of which work in deplorable conditions and have committed suicide as a result. I'm sure Apple has also has a bunch of "yellow" guys working in their hardware and software development teams too. It doesn't matter where you are, who you are, what color your skin is, or who you work for. All that matters is can they produce a product that people want to buy. There's no room for bigoted comments (not directed at you deeoh).

apple's internal clocks show that the A5 processer is actually underclocked to 800mhz. its not even a full gig

yeah but the iphone4s gpu is superior powerVR sgx543mp > mali400

this is very true. The iphone only needs a strong GPU more than it needs a strong CPU since iOS is so limited. Real world though, that GPU cant pull it out of non graphical situations of which there are plenty... especially when its saddled with only 512mb ram.. which is what you find on low/middle end androids these days.

Yeah.. 1944 called, it wants its racial slur back. Samsung is a global company. It employs plenty of Americans. Go look into Apple's manufacturing practices before you spout nonsense.
