Samsung US sweepstakes reveal the "Approximate Retail Value' of the Galaxy S 4 to be $579

Samsung US sweepstakes reveal the
UPDATE: The SIM-free pricing ballpark for UK has also been outed by an online retailer, and it will be around £529.98 including VAT, which is in line with the current Sony and HTC flagships there.

The pricing scheme of the Samsung Galaxy S 4 already leaked for Europe, at least in Italy, and, as usual for a high-end Android at launch there, it hovers around the EUR 600 mark.

This price typically translates to the same amount, but in dollars, when it comes to the good ol' USA, and, judging from the retail price listed by Samsung itself in official sweepstakes rules, it will go even lower.

In the fifth section there, the rules state: "First Prizes: 48 First Prizes will be awarded, each consisting of a Samsung Galaxy S® 4 mobile device. Approximate Retail Value ("ARV"): $579."

There you have it, the likely off-contract pricing revealed by Samsung itself shows that the Koreans won't be asking an arm and a leg for this year's Galaxy line flagship upgrade, plus, if history is any indication, it will hold value relatively well. The subsidized carrier contract pricing will, of course, be much lower than that.

i guess we all should wake up and stop buying all products that anyone throws at us. boycott any greedy company till they drop their prices. S4 should not cost more than 200 dollars to build it.

Its people like you who would say nothing when it comes to paying close to 900$ for an iPhone but when it comes to paying for some other brand then you think budget, I am not justifying the pricing, it definitely should be less but again all the manufacturers price their flagships same. N don't start with your plastic bullc**p because what samsung doesn't offer in material it offers in features like bigger battery, expandable memory, and amoled screen. The extra software features(Multiwindow, hover view etc) are an added bonus which itself takes a lot of R&D($ well spent) to develop. You make a phone for 200$ and sell it for the same amount. Will you do that? Every company is here to mint money my buddy.

That's the power of apple lol , that means I can sell my few month iphone 5 and get a new galaxy s4 , ppl you need to understand this apple no just sell products , they sell a representation , is like a Bentley or a roll Royce , they have less features than a Benz or BMW still they cost more .

Thank god! He finally accepts that iPhone offers less features. And representation of what? Does a Rolls Royce or Bentley gets scratched as easily as an iPhone or do they make you lose your way with imaps. Representation...eh! Don't spoil their names at least. They command the premium because they provide you the best without any compromise.

Let me give you some facts , you said scratch so what , all phones get scratch , why you didn't mention drop test , you look like you haven't seen any against the s3 and will be better against s4 as well , when it come to maps they did that cuz they knew , google was gonna beg to put google maps on ios like I have it right now , and soon will have google now as well lol by the way all google apps including google voice , look and feel better in ios isn't that a shame lol

To people like you even the dated ios looks good. So, I won't comment on what looks good on what. What resolution do you watch movies on your iPhone and what format? Again what looks good and what bad, I would say don't cry. And who begged? When the maps turned out shady, you iFans were the first one's begging..Google please. You want to start an argument on features. Let's get started, I am waiting to eat something raw since long. Get your facts right before talking bulls**t. And I understand you are an isheep, but you know what? At least don't cry and blabber anything you feel like saying to prove your point. Google would make people beg and that is what they did. Check apple stocks and compare them to Google. You would know! And a disclaimer, I respect both the Android and ios for the good things they do but just for people like you who don't know a dime about technology I speak up in such tone. You want to continue? You are still welcome, let me see how much you know about either platform.

Did you just say , go look at the stock lol cuz last time I check apple was over 400 billions almost twice as much a google so don't mention that , look shut up you and fandroid are always taking crap about useless features that no one uses , A have had a million android phone no gonna give u the list , the point is that android phones always have problems , lets start with NFC who care or uses that , Bluetooth file transfer never came across no one who wanna to use that , and all the other gimmick samsung add to their phones , my last android phone I had was the nexus 4 which is the best android experience you c an have , you know why I sold it becauseos the thermal throttling after you play 20 min , it goes from 60 frames to 30 understand this android can't , they just can't get one one right .

Go and learn grammer first. Even for someone like me from a non english speaking nation it is so easy to spot all your mistakes. Who uses bluetooth? Now I don't discuss technology with people who don't know what they talk about. If playing Full Hd videos in whatever format is a useless feature, bluetooth and wi-fi direct file transfer, being able to download attachment's and save it in your file system, have you heard of torrents, yes we can download them as well, phone as a media storage device, can you change the look and feel of your device like launcher's or live wall papers, expandable memory etc. If all this are useless for you then go and get yourself a nokia 3310. It always works and you can do all what you do. and stock price for google is around 800$ and apple is around 500$. Do some research before you blurt. Ah! you might not know what stocks are no wonder you talk like this. First know what you are talking about and then indulge in a discussion.

Not to mention you throw in a 64GB MicroSD and still come out under $600. Simply put, Samsung knows how to play bang for the buck and by putting HW, SW, SD slot, removable large battery and other features ahead of design compromises (nice uni body; good luck waiting 2 weeks if battery's de.ad, good luck spending $150 more for $15 worth of extra storage). But the sheeep will always end up judging the phone by it's cover.

Why don't you get them an Android device? They depreciate quickly, and you can find a wide selection from $59 to $500. In fact, Amazon is selling the S3 for $479 unlocked vs the iPhone 4S unlocked, which sells for $549. Since they are your parents, you all will be showered with the latest tech in plastic.
