It's official: Samsung is embracing the notch with two new displays
Until today, Samsung was just one of a few companies that refused to follow the notched display trend. In fact, a recent revelation suggested that it would skip the design entirely in favor of display holes. But today, in an unexpected move, the South Korean giant has announced that it will soon begin adopting notched panels.

Set to be known as Infinity-V and Infinity-U, the two new displays will be pretty similar thanks to small waterdrop notches that sit just above the screen. However, the differentiating factor between the two will actually be the shape of the element. See, just as their names suggest, the Infinity-U display will adopt a U-shaped notch while Infinity-V panels will use V-shaped ones. Elsewhere, though, the displays are expected to be identical. This means that rounded corners complete with slim side bezels and a small chin below the display are to be expected.

Samsung hasn’t confirmed when these two displays will make it to the market, but it did announce that they will be joined by two other panels. The first, and possibly the one that will be featured on the Galaxy S10 next year ,will be called Infinity-O. Instead of the controversial notch, this display will include a small hole in the top-left corner that houses the front-facing camera.

Separate to these traditional displays, the South Korean giant also announced its new Infinity Flex Display which, just as the name suggests, will be included on its upcoming foldable smartphone. Another thing worth noting is that it’s compatible with Samsung’s new One UI.

This was a presentation from Samsung Display, not Samsung Mobile. It doesn't at all mean SM is going to use notched displays.

What hot is in, it doesn't matter who does it. Especially if Apple does its successful why not. If your competitors are doing and they are gaining popularity, why not? They trolled hard, oh well who cares. Personally not a fan of any. If it will be benefit us. Let them Rumble like

there is nothing wrong with adopting the notch. the problem here is Samsung mocked it really hard, and then they adopt it eventually. and they are super late too.

Nope, there is no problem here.. Samsung was just finding ways to do it better because seriously the iPhone notch is just ugly and even though I don't like the infinity U or V, I still think it's a better implementation..

Samsung different type of displays doesn't mean they'll make a phone with a notch. Samsung have clients who'd like to purchase their displays. That was advertising. My money is on the new Infinity display or Infinity O

That's exactly what I was just thinking.

Lmao, it's a notch, but Samsung never said they didn't want a notch in general. They just don't want an long bar cutout style notch. If Samsung made fun of the notch Essential PH1, then I understand they are hypocrites, but they didn't. Thats like me making fun of the Volkswagen Beatle's shape, but that doesn't mean I still won't go for smaller round car, Maybe the newer Audi TT, or the rounder curvier Mini Coopers.

Oh dear I hope this is done for other OEMs that want those sort of displays and that the Note 10 has the Under screen cameras and sensors.

I don't want any cutout of any kind on my screen. If they're going this route with the flagships and ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack also, then it looks like the Note9 will be the last Samsung I ever buy.

The thing is, they are all going the same route. So if the note line is what you like you may as well stay with it because all are doing it.

Same here and that's why I bought the NexS. Full screen, big battery and 3.5mm Jack.

This should be a (sour) lesson for all the haters that are bitching about the object of their hate: "I don't like OLED" - take that bi*ch... is using OLED; "I will never buy a phone with sealed battery" - take that bi*ch, every phone is sealed today; "I don't want a big screen phone" - take that bi*ch, today 6" is becoming "regular"; "I don't like notches" - take that bi*ch, ... is cutting the display. Boy, people are effing stupid!!!

Well said Leo.......... For once I agree with you. Lol But the notch is still fugly in any form.

I agree: they are ugly but it's better to look at them like at an extension (Huawey nailed it with the way it hides it on M20p) instead of seeing them as notches; focus on the good side of things instead of hating. This is how we should "fight" each other: "I agree because, I don't agree because!" Peace, bro!

You need to experience the NexS screen which doesn't have a notch at all. It's truly beautiful and a proper 6.6 inches with no interruption. Once you do, you will never buy a notched phone again.

Max is already too big for my tastes (I might get used to it, but I don't want to, at least not for a year), this one is even bigger... I think I'll pass on any phone this year.

It didn't say they were coming, it said they were screen ideas they were working on, doesn't mean any of them will necessarily make it to market, and if they do there is no reason to suggest it will make it onto all devices, perhaps mid rangers..... At this time they are unconfirmed, only infinity flex is the guaranteed display for a foldable display

Samsung said they are just around the corner and will follow up with more information in the near future, actually.

Thnx for telling. My comment probably received a lot of hate or sarcastic jokes for Apple/Samsung. But that shouldn't have been the reason to delete my comment. It's not my fault other people comment such things on it! Btw what comment did u make?
