New Samsung Galaxy S8 Active photos leak out

New Samsung Galaxy S8 Active photos leak out
In case you still had doubts about the existence of a rugged version of Samsung's Galaxy S8 - called S8 Active - you should probably put them to rest now. While Samsung still hasn't announced the new smartphone, we can now take yet another look at it, thanks to images from a leaked "employee training manual" published today by Android Police.

As previously reported, the Galaxy S8 Active shares most of its internals with the regular S8, but it's got a tougher, different-looking exterior. The new phone's 5.8-inch, 1440 x 2960 pixels display is flat and protected by raised margins, while a "durable metal frame" makes the device shock-resistant. Overall, the S8 Active will be a bit taller, wider, thicker, and heavier than the regular S8 - not only because of its rugged design, but also because it packs a larger (4000 mAh) battery.

The S8 Active will unsurprisingly have Bixby (Samsung's own digital assistant) on board, and a Bixby button on the left, just below the volume rocker. Unfortunately, it looks like the handset will run Android 7.0 Nougat at launch, despite the fact that Android 7.1 Nougat has been around for quite a while.

AT&T is bound to sell the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active in the US, and while there's no word on when this will happen, soon is likely a safe bet.

A flat screen from Samsung? Yey! Here's hoping Note 8 has a flat screen version.

I wasn't much interested in LG devices, but doesn't LG make one with embedded stylus. Do they make a device with that awesome screen to body ratio but flat screen and embedded pen (like Note series)?

LG does make them, called the LG Stylus or Stylo. But they are pretty low end devices, so don't expect too much

Ha! I don't think that's going to happen, but i wish there was a non curved version of the Note 8, not necessarily flat, but more like that iPhone's and HTC's that have some curved glass instead of the screen. This phone doesn't have a curved display because it MUST be flat in order to be durable

Yeah, yet majority would like their thin phones with smaller battery capacities. Loosing a millimeter or two is nothing if the battery can reach 5000 mAh.

100% agreed. I hate that Apple started this "thinner" trend. It's stupid, and it makes my phone rock on table instead of laying dead flat. At least latest Samsung devices have near-flat camera bump. Let's hope they lead the phone industry with that like they did with larger screens.

Like the Asus zenfone 3 zoom.

Just wish they made a version of a Note "Active" (with a flat screen).

This phone is pretty much perfect, the front finally looks decent on Active variant without those ugly physical buttons that the series usually have, now they only need to improve the back design, if only they could copy and paste the back of the Galaxy S4 active that one was pretty cool i don't understand why they ever changed it in the first place, well maybe next year... that
