Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge available for pre-orders in Turkey

Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge available for pre-orders in Turkey
Last Sunday, we told you that Turkish carrier Turkcell was beginning to take pre-orders on the HTC One M9. Now, the mobile operator has started taking reservations on the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 edge. The 32GB variant of each model is available to be pre-ordered in one of four different color options.

The price of the 32GB Samsung Galaxy S6 from Turkcell is the equivalent of $956 USD. The 32GB Samsung Galaxy S6 edge will cost you $1147 USD. The carrier is asking $1060 USD for the HTC One M9, although Turkcell is giving those who pre-order that device a voucher good for $114 USD that can be used for equipment, accessories or service. It doesn't appear that a similar voucher will be offered to those pre-ordering Samsung's new phones.

While no launch date appears on the Turkcell website, the Samsung Galaxy S6 is expected to launch on April 10th overseas, with a U.S. launch possibly taking place across all four major U.S. carriers on April 11th. Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest mobile carrier, is expected to begin accepting pre-orders for both handsets on April 1st.

What's the tax rates there? We got two different taxes for cell phones here. Three, if it has FM Radio. Also those are cumulative. And a new tax on the way. Also there is a minimum amount of tax for one of these, so if phone is cheap, tax is higher. For S6 and S6 Edge total tax is about 47.5%, for M9 it's 56.35%.

But the cost is based on the difference when money is converted, Right? So basically the only reason you guys pay so much more, because you money has far less value. In the US, we and countries that use the Euro, pay almost the same price. $588 Euros is about $650 bucks, which is what the S5 costs. But in the US, it appears Sammy drop the cost of the S6 because its around $599, while the entry model S6 Edge is $650. Which both is still a very nice cost for what you get.

It's prices directly related to USD. So as well our money keeping losing value against USD, every year phones getting more expensive for us. For example S5's price were beginning from 2,199TL at the April 2014, now S6's price begins from 2,499TL. But at the launch time S5's price were about $1,047 in Turkey, now S6's price is about $964. Much higher prices than US or EU prices. Those are expensive for any standards. Correct me If I'm wrong, as well I know you are just paying sale tax in the US and it's maximum 11% only in some states. Again as well I know in the EU countries they are paying just VAT and maximum rate is about 27% only in some countries. On the other hand in Turkey, firstly we are paying a label tax for government TV and radio channels, if it has FM radio. Rate is about 6%. Then came Special Consumption Tax (kind of a luxury tax but actually it's related to alcohol and tobacco duties of EU). Is about 25%. But minimum amount of it fixed to 120TL now equivalent to $46. So if you are gonna buy a $10 worth feature phone, you have to pay $46 Special Consumption Tax. Then 18% VAT comes. You will be wrong if you are thinking total tax rate is about 49% (6+25+18). They are calculating it cumulatively. Not over yet. They are preparing a new tax named anti-dumping duty. Every imported phone (which means almost every phone) will be subject to it. Rumors says it will be around 8-10%. BTW, 2 years warranty is mandatory in Turkey. Also online purchases from other countries is banned.

Everything is expensive in Turkey!! But this is insanely expensive for a phone. My cousin just moved there a year ago, he was driving a 2011 Porsche Cayenne in Lebanon, now he is driving a Renault Megan in Turkey, because it will cost him a fortune to buy one there.

Why would he? He called them by their exact name. Maybe I am missing the joke. lol They are the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. They are both still Galaxy devices. What's wrong with using the whole name?

Where I live s6 (770usd) is cheaper than m9 (809usd) and ip6 (873usd). 128GB costs about the same as the ip6+ 16GB.

True, it has the same camera as Note 4 but with wider aperture, it can only become better than Note 4 if not just as good. Needs some tweaking

Electronics and cars are expensive in Turkey because there are lots of taxes. I have a VW Golf but I could buy a BMW 320i with the same money if I lived in United States. That's how tragic taxes are. S6 and S6 Edge will sell well in Turkey as well. 90% of people use either iPhone or Samsung. I have a Xperia Z1 Compact but I'm tempted to buy S6 if it has a powerful headphone jack.

Everything isnt very expensive in Turkey. In my city (Ankara) 3-room flat rental price is about 250$ per month. Bus tickets are 0,6$ for students 0,8$ for others. I pay 0,65$ for lunch at university, 0,2$ for coffee and 0,4$ for hot chocolate. etc, etc, etc But cell phones are really expensive since goverment charges extra fee for mobile phones. 150$ memopad 7 (Z3745) costs 380 TL (146$) But 150$ zenfone 5 costs 700 TL (270$) Recently I bought LG Gpad 7 + original smart case + 32 GB SD card (toshiba class 10) for 100$. Only tablet itself is 125$ in amazon. And well those price are not unusual. Iphone 6 16gb (960$), 6+ 16gb (1100$), 6+ 128gb (1350$) And Im supporting this because ppl buy "smart" phones like crazy. Everybody change their phones in every 6 months. Regular wroker who has 400$ salary buys an iphone for 1000$. Imo phones are smart but ppl are just too stupid. U can still find nice phones for decent price tho GMD mini 2 (local brand, 1gb ram, 1.3 quad core mtk, 8mp camera) 180$ GMD 2 (2gb ram, mtk6592T 2ghz octa core, 13mp camera) 310$ GMD Air (blu vivo air) 280$ Zenfone 5 lite 240$, zenfone 5 270$, zenfone 6 310$ Xperia Z2 520$ Samsung S5 580$, S4 390$, Alpha 540$ Huawei Ascend G7 390$ Huawei Ascend Mate 7 590$ LG G2 16gb 410$, G3 (3gb ram) 580$

Some people who working for minimum wages and they are spends their hard earned money to buy expensive shoes or pants. Should we heavily taxed shoes too? So you justified smarter people suffer for that? Government doesn't give a s**t where people spends their money. Mobile phones a cash cow for them just like gas and cars.

You dont know the situation in Turkey. Millons of ppl with 5000-6000$ annual income buy iphone every year You can buy decent laptop (i5, 8GB ram, 2GB GPU) for 700$ in Turkey. You can also buy laptop for 260$ (4GB ram intel celeron) or 2600$. When you compare those laptops you can feel the difference. But all smart phones do pretty much the same thing. Smart phones become affordable luxury. They cannot buy 1M$ villa, 500k $ Ferrari of 10k $ watch. But they can buy 1000$ iphone, therefore they buy. Ferrari doesnt lose its value in 1 yr. You can use laptop for 5 yrs or LCD TV for 10 yrs. But those mobile phones become crap in 1 yr. I change my phone in every 3 yrs, but most ppl just waste their money on smart phones every single year. So this is the problem.

LOL I know the situation in Turkey very well. I had 4 phones in last 15 years. If some people wants to spending their money for phones it's their choice. Are you asking other people where you should spend your money? I don't want to robbed by government via outrageous taxes because of that.

I got it. You know Turkey very well Man Im not supporting high taxes. But some of my friends and relatives act like stupid. They say "Did u see new iphone 6 / galaxy s6 / note 4, its awsome, I think its time to change my iphone 5s / galaxy S5 / note 3" This makes me angry. And I feel better when they pay more :D
