Rumor: Samsung Galaxy S7 will cost you more money, but comes with an iris scanner
According to a report out of Poland, you might want to start saving up for the Samsung Galaxy S7 you plan on buying next year. If this report is legit, Samsung plans on hiking the price for the Galaxy S7 series. According to Evan Blass (who once upon a time was well-known by his @evleaks Twitter handle), we will see four variations of the manufacturer's flagship model in 2016. They include the Samsung Galaxy S7, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Plus and the Samsung Galaxy S7 Plus.

Today's report states that one reason for the price hike could be the new iris scanner that Sammy plans on stuffing into the entire Galaxy S7 line. With the iris scanner on board, a steely stare at your Samsung Galaxy S7 should be able to unlock the handset, verify your identity, and basically do all of the things that a fingerprint scanner can do. Because everyone has unique patterns in their eyes, the iris scanner is the most precise type of biometrics available

Recently, we passed along to you images of some new cases said to be made for both the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Samsung Galaxy S7 Plus. One of the photos contained an image that was claimed to be that of the Galaxy S7, which will apparently include a rectangular home button. The Galaxy S7 should be unveiled on February 21st, the day before MWC opens in Barcelona, during the Samsung Unpacked 2016 event. And a leaked road map showing China Mobile's upcoming handset launches reveals a March release for the Galaxy S7.

With this report in mind, we could see the Samsung Galaxy S7 carry a retail price above $700 at the time it is released in the U.S.

Thanks for the tip!

I don't get it. So the Iris scanner scans only the eye? Or does it just scan the face trough infrared, reading depth in the face rather then scanning a Retina?

Finally iris scanner. Patented Since the S3/S4 days

It probably is infrared like Windows Hello IMO its a great addition, along with the fingerprint reader e.g. People who live in cold place can use it to unlock their phone quick, even if they are wearing gloves

The new S will sport both the iris scanner and fingersprint scanner. But please, tell Samsung to pattern it nơ, before the rotten fruit "pre-pattern" it and then go back to the future and suit them, or whoever does that before them.

I don't get you. You're expecting an IRIS scanner to scan your FACE and RETINA? smh

Retina scanners do exist. Usually using low-powered IR laser reflection. Obviously that's not what Samsung's *iris* scanner does though :p

$700? LMFAO Go F yourself, Samsung. I'll buy a LG or a Nexus and dump you after buying the S1, S2, S3, S4, and S5. No reason to pay more than $450 for a NEW unsubsidised phone in 2015

I don't see why the unsubstantiated rant. You have a choice. You don't want it, then don't buy. Innovation is what it's all about. If you do not see the innovation in the S7, go buy whatever phone you think is worth your $450.

You've been saying for 9 months that you're going to buy an LG or something else other than Samsung. Your random, long-term threats to take away $450 ($160 in profits) hasn't seemed to have deterred Samsung. Apple and Samsung flagships aren't for the broke. The Motorola G or Galaxy A3 might be more in your range. See, no need to complain to Samsung. Or, you can just ask Flo if you can borrow her Name Your Price tool and just tell these corporations what you want to pay. That's what I do. I pay 3 cents per gallon of gas because that's the price I like.

I t can include the kitchen sink but i the price goes up, its a no-go. Paying such pemium for everyday tech in 2016 is just ridiculous!

everyday tech?...when was an iris scanner everyday tech on mobile devices?

A TELEPHONE is indeed everyday tech. It shouldn't cost more than what an S5 costed before. Anyway, didn't Android have face-unlock? Why is this so much better? Using ridiculous tech for just one thing like that heart rate scanner. I've asked on some forums if that scanner can't be used for something else. Like helping the camera focussing (infrared) or red-eye reduction. But I got no reply ever. This is the same.

Everyday tech? Please show me other devices with retina scanners. Do you unlock your car with your eyes? How about where you live? To unlock you pc, turn on TV or cable? So how is it a common everyday tech. Last I checked, on my government agencies have iris scanners. Remember they once we're the only ones with fingerprint readers. Samsung is bring something we've never had. Anyway back to topic. VzW usually sells the South at the lowest cost at 599 brand new. Ass I ming it could go up $100, I would say it needs more than just an iris scanner. How about making internal storage 64 and 128 only. 20MP camera on the rear and 8 on the front. Oh and drop on the Exyynos 8890 and it may be ok. The new S looks like it's not going to look hood. May be bad timing to raise the price if the phone is ugly or has issues. But at East you will actually get something when you pay extra money. Not like some Oems. Charge you money for. Or higher more than size.

Lets not rush to the conclusion. After all, if the new S is expanded to the size of the Note, then the price increase will be reasonable then.

Where are all the trolls that keep saying that "when apple adds a feature it costs more - yet apple has never added cost to a line with FP sensors, FT screen, slo-mo camera module capable of 240fps, and so on..." What now?

50. TyrionLannister unregistered

Apple hikes the price every year. Maybe you are accustomed to buying phones on contract. Phones are getting expensive and high end phones cost more than 800$ now, which is higher than last year. It will still cost less than even the 6s, let alone iPhone 7 which will probably cost 1000$ for 16 GB.

You obviously don't know what you say, come to Indonesia and see how each generation iPhone always cost even more from previous model. There is no official Apple store here, even 6S is not officially released here and when it released it's becoming obsolete tech.

Cell phone technology is getting way too advanced. But I guess for those that have the wallets to afford this it won't bother them

what's that? they want more for a phone that's already too expensive because of a feature that no one will use?
