Nokia N8 Hands-on

Nokia N8 Hands-on
We've just received our Nokia N8 review unit and thought we'd give you guys a sneak peak before we got down and dirty to review Nokia's newest flagship phone. It comes in a flat box, matte blue and layered, like opening a present, revealing the Nokia N8 inside. Our version is graphite. The phone doesn't have a removable battery, so underneath it is a quick guide showing you how to put in your SIM card and microSD card.

The box also has a number of connector leads in it such as HDMI to mini HDMI, microUSB to USB (male), microUSB to USB (female, enabling the phone to be used as a USB stick reader), as well as a 2mm Nokia charger. There are also a pair of earbud headphones which have music controls (play/pause, back, forward) and a volume rocker on them, as well as the standard microphone and call/end button.

On top of that is a bunch of literature in a number of languages guiding you through the phone. We've had a quick play, and our first impressions are: it's very Symbian and the camera is quick. That's all you're getting out of us now, we're going to head off and live with it for a short while so we can give you a comprehensive run-down on Nokia's multimedia powerhouse, the N8.

Keep an eye on PhoneArena over the coming days for our full review of the Nokia N8.

Hi, I have waited for this phone for 4 months and I have brought the Wave, Not sure to buy this phone cus nokia N900 (Bulky and less features and more costly ) and nokia 5800 was a dissapointment to me. Revently all the nokia flagship models are not performing well. There are not many apps there in Simbian. I'm waiting for android os for Nokia, because the experience with symbian is very less compared to android or ios4. Nokia phones are not so fast in accessing net, that has to be changed since the users are needed the fast sppeds when accessing the wifi and battery should last longer. Any way lets hope nokia put their heart into this, I hate to become the experimental guy for the Nokia (recently all the post flagship models are good then flagship models). I hope phonearena scrutinizes the phone well

Sexy "body" packed with muscle and a super-camera! I can not wait to have this one.. Seems to me that many users don't make a difference bethween the old and the new symbian, anyway i am not that sceptic and i am willing to give this one a chance.

This phone is what I would call SEXY (in phone terms). The only problems, is that I'm not a huge fan of Symbian. Perhaps android, or wp7, or even windows mobile. But i guess its just not for me. Doesn't mean that I won't pick this up. It's almost unresistantably sexy. No unresistantably is not a word. But it may become one. =] Wait scratch that. Thats how i feel about the e7=]. But its still sexy. Of course, the e7 is even sexier

Totally agree - awesome device. I may have finally found something to replace my HD2 :) Still though I may wait for E7 to come out :)

You may wish to check with NOKIA that you have the post-latest-delayed-software-updated version. Another website published a review that was fairly critical only to discover that the version they had been sent (about 2 weeks ago) was not the version now being shipped!

I rolled with the Captivate for a week. Had to return it because I couldn't take it anymore. Android has a nice UI and I really like TouchWiz minus the iPhone icons, but the capacitive buttons, the awful battery life, lack of ringer profiles like Symbian's, and the lack of control over when you want to use your data connection sent me over the edge. There are other features too that I dearly missed like a camera flash and shutter button. Those two were big problems for me. Android just seems incomplete, like they gave users customization options here, but then there they have nothing. It makes no sense. I'm going to miss the huge application market and virtual QWERTY's, but Nokia will catch up on that front.
