Nokia Drive+ now available for ALL Windows Phone 8 users
Now this is a treat, Microsoft and Nokia have opened up the beta of Nokia Drive+ to all Windows Phone 8 users. The outstanding turn-by-turn navigation application is free and available now in the Windows Phone Store.

The app has been in beta for some time while Nokia polishes things up, despite that, it is one of the best turn-by-turn navigation applications available, on any platform. Nokia Drive+ has been part of the “Nokia Experience,” exclusive to the Finnish manufacturer’s hardware.

Nokia has quietly been making huge inroads since its acquisition of NAVTEQ and this is one of the first widespread fruits of that labor.  It was known for some time that Nokia would be providing "mapping abilities" to all Windows Phone 8 handsets as part of the technology sharing agreement between Nokia and Microsoft, but it was not immediately known how that would be implemented.

The application is now available for users in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada. It boasts all the expected features you would want in a high-end GPS app, plus the ability to download maps for offline use. This is a great development for all Windows Phone 8 users.  For those of us that have used it, we can say that the rest of the Windows Phone user base is in for a great experience.  You can download Nokia Drive+ here.

This is by far the best offline navigational system on windows phone right now. This will completely change the game completely, because it will be Universally used amongst Windows Phone. Nokia has yet not to deliver on its promises, you go Nokia you rule. The fact that this is free offline mapping and doesn't need data connection to work will shut some people up finally. Apple take notes will you, although not perfect this is the way to the future. Nokia Drive is sooooooo facking fantastic.

Not the best only on WP, but the best on mobile devices! Blows the rivals out of the water! Apple maps can't be taken into account as it's not quite there yet while Google Maps does not even have true offline navigation

Wish Google Map has the offline map. There were few times I got no data reception and the maps just couldn't work.

Thats strange. I just need data to look up the address and after that I can turn off data and run off of GPS.

Ive done this on a Incredible, Statosphere, Razr, and GS3. Like I said. I turn it off after I set my destination to save battery life. It doesnt work if you do it before.

You people really need to learn how to use your phones. I can vouch, without a doubt that my method works.

Instead of giving me thumbs down. Educate yourself and try it. Be thankful you learned something new.

Google caches a small section of the map for offline use. In contrast, Nokia lets you download anything from as small as a state to its entire mapped world.

How small is the cache, because I constantly travel to LA and Ive never had a problem with re-routing at all. I assume it uses the GPS on my Android phones and I assume the maps are already built into the phone. I dont know what it needs the web for honestly. I dont see the point of turning on the web to start the app. Type in the Address, then turn it off within seconds. I used this on Verizons slow 3g almost 2 years ago, so how fast does this cache? I would do this within like a minute and then turn off the web.

Google Maps has the offline maps option available. You just have to go to the "Make available Offline" option from the menu once you identify the destination. I could download an entire state on my phone, about 79 mb and use it to navigate without any issues.

Ugh. I just realized something. Which app are you guys using. Theres usually TWO on Android phones on top of maybe VZW Nav. Theres Google Maps Google Maps Navigation VZW Nav on Verizon This is possible on Google Maps Navigation. Why would you guys use the regular Google Maps? I find Google Maps Navigation much better and its pre-installed on your phone. It technically is still Google Maps.

but why? according to many android fans google does not have to offer its apps or even services to anyone else so why should nokia bother? look for the articles about youtube and google and microsoft and read the comments to see how android users will defend google whatever the situation

Impressive! I knew this was coming with the Bing/Nokia Maps union. Very generous of Nokia to share. Nokia still has some exclusives, with Music, Camera Extras, and a few others.

Drive + is a turd, plain and simple. Routing is staggeringly unreliable and inaccurate. I have test it on many occasions and at least half the time it wants to take you on some very bizzare detours. Text-to-speech is lackluster at best. If you travel a lot and rely on GPS do yourself a favor and don't use Drive +.

Is is really available for ALL wp8 users? I thought it's only available for users in US, UK and Canada? I tried downloading the app, and while I was able to download it, the app says it doesn't support my SIM card.
