No Lollipop for you! HTC One mini 2 will not be updated

No Lollipop for you! HTC One mini 2 will not be updated
A tweet from HTC in response to a question about the HTC One mini 2 reveals that the handset will not be receiving an update to Android 5.0. The phone, which was launched exactly a year-ago yesterday, carries 1GB of RAM and features the Snapdragon 400 chipset inside. The One mini 2 was supposed to be a compact version of the HTC One (M8) and offered a 4.5-inch Super LCD 2 screen with a resolution of 720 x 1280.

According to the message that was sent from HTC's Twitter account, "We determined that Lollipop on the One mini 2 will not provide an optimal experience; it isn't scheduled to receive the update." HTC's Mo Versi tweeted back in March that only the Google Play edition of the HTC One (M7) would be receiving an update to Android 5.1. HTC had guaranteed that the model would receive updates for two years from its launch date, but that time period had expired. A subsequent text from Versi hinted that HTC brass was reexamining the situation.

Back in the summer of 2011, HTC originally said that it would not update the HTC Desire to Gingerbread (Android 2.3) due to the lack of storage space on the handset. The manufacturer had originally said that the model would be receiving the update. A few days later, a tweet from HTC tersely announced that it had changed its mind once more and the HTC Desire was once again scheduled to receive Android 2.3.

Considering HTC's history of flip-flopping in similar situations, HTC One mini 2 owners should probably wait a week to see if the company changes its mind.

What a joke. A phone that is less than a year old with weaker specs than the Moto E 2015 and it can't be upgraded? Step your game up HTC.

That's the major difference between a COMPACT and a MINI phone. Sony has done a remarkable job in creating their COMPACT series.

The Z3 compact did cost as much as a regular flagship device and much more than the mini devices.

You can find the HTC here on amazon for $500. You can find the Z3 Compact for $460 or on ebay for around $390. BUT its SoC justifies the price. And the Moto G for $200 with the same SoC.

I don't understand why the Desire 816 got the 5.0 update but this phone won't.

Custom ROMs don't count! With Jailbreak iOS easily beats WP and Android in terms of features, but we talk about stock experiences. Note go 4.1 as I remember, my 4S will get 8.4 and no, newest updates don't slow my phone, 8.1.2 fixed that and now it's as smooth as on iOS7. Your Note can only dream about such manufacturer support.

>Custom ROMs don't count! >Jailbreak iOS easily beats WP and Android LOL should I say anything else about this moronic sentence? From version 4.0 and after Android has more features then iOS or WP, hell even 3.0

Ehh all this Android vs iOS is such touchy topic. I wrote jailbreak as an example of modyfying OS, then stated that we re talking about stock experience so it doesn't count. Please twist my words. I am not fan of any company, I like IOS for it's music capabilities but without jailbreak it would be unusable. My buddy still got S3 and it's stuck on 4.3 so it got 3 updates and runs like complete piece of crap, I bet same goes for Note, it's fact that such old phone like 4S runs better than these two. I'm waiting now for another moron to shout: it's because iOS has no features! You're right my friend, but with jailbreak you can get ALL those features and not lose fluidity.

Eh my 4s work phone runs like s**t now, nothing to brag about. And I wouldn't actually call that support. Android 4.4 kitkat and android 5.0 are drastically different. iOS 1 - 6 are practically the same and iOS 7 is the only true revision and that will go on until iOS 13. If you want to brag about that, then it's fine. But really, it's nothing to brag about. Apple only has like 4 devices to worry about at a time and all of their devices can run an ancient IOS OS easily. Other manufacturers would do the same if they could, unfortunately other manufacturers don't have a following of sheep that praise them for rehashing the same software and hardware over and over again.

Jailbreak ios is almost as good as non rooted android you mean. There is almost nothing android can't do already without rooting the device. And the ios nr doesn't count as much as you don't get all the improved features. Those are only for the new iphones

Please! My iPad is jailbreaked and it still doesn't match android out of the box. Most of cydia tweaks are sh*t and the useful ones are paid. Seriously paying for the bluetooth data transfer capability? And the pirated tweaks miraculously slow down the device. Android is way more functional and feature packed. And if you want more, get rooted and install Xposed, Xposed PWNS cydia easily. Don't even get me started over the shi**y winterboard theme engine.

Unfortunately true. On the other hand the community can do updates long after the manufacturer stops. I just put my note 2 on ezkat and it fixed a rebooting and freezing issue I had on stock.

Aside from Nokia there are no other WP to even gauge by. Microsoft doesn't have any minimum standards of updating either, FYI. This is HTC being HTC. They WILL NOT UPGRADE ANY NON FLAGSHIP PHONES. Don't like it, don't buy from them. They'll be gone before you know it.

The lumia 800 didn't even get one update. Lol They had to redo windows phone from scratch so they had to ditch the older devices remember.

Newer iOS versions for older models only has performance decrease written all over it. Basically, Apple pressures you to upgrade to newer models by slowing down your phone, but tricking you to thinking that you're in for new software. WP 7 was pretty bad. And tbh, WP may update your phone, but the ecosystem is dang sketchy.
