No Lollipop for you! HTC One mini 2 will not be updated

No Lollipop for you! HTC One mini 2 will not be updated
A tweet from HTC in response to a question about the HTC One mini 2 reveals that the handset will not be receiving an update to Android 5.0. The phone, which was launched exactly a year-ago yesterday, carries 1GB of RAM and features the Snapdragon 400 chipset inside. The One mini 2 was supposed to be a compact version of the HTC One (M8) and offered a 4.5-inch Super LCD 2 screen with a resolution of 720 x 1280.

According to the message that was sent from HTC's Twitter account, "We determined that Lollipop on the One mini 2 will not provide an optimal experience; it isn't scheduled to receive the update." HTC's Mo Versi tweeted back in March that only the Google Play edition of the HTC One (M7) would be receiving an update to Android 5.1. HTC had guaranteed that the model would receive updates for two years from its launch date, but that time period had expired. A subsequent text from Versi hinted that HTC brass was reexamining the situation.

Back in the summer of 2011, HTC originally said that it would not update the HTC Desire to Gingerbread (Android 2.3) due to the lack of storage space on the handset. The manufacturer had originally said that the model would be receiving the update. A few days later, a tweet from HTC tersely announced that it had changed its mind once more and the HTC Desire was once again scheduled to receive Android 2.3.

Considering HTC's history of flip-flopping in similar situations, HTC One mini 2 owners should probably wait a week to see if the company changes its mind.

Meh. I have a Nexus 5 with Android 5.1 and honestly I don't see any benefits over the latest Kitkat.

Moto G and Moto E got lollipop update and they practically became useless, KitKat really rocks on these phones, I got update on desire 816 and now it's not the same, its really slow, also my M8 with kittkat really fly then my M9 with lollipop.. Most people especially stock android phones users felt annoyance with lollipop update ( I am not the one though except slow dialer as my moto X 2014 became slow in term if opening dialer app). Lollipop have extra features and some are really useful but lollipop overall experience is not great in term of performance.

I gave up HTC just for the same reason. Very very poor software support for not so old, high end devices (HTC One S and One X at their time). HTC will never receive customers love, if they keep pulling such crap move. Devices are great, but support... It`s the reason, why HTC lost so many users. I have to admit, that in this situation WP and iOS dominates (exception in Android field is Nexus). Look at Lumia 520. Such a cheap smartphone with decent hardware - WP 8.0, 8.1 and Microsoft said, that even WP 10 will be availabe for this little guy. For a few months, I`ve been using Sony Xperia Z1 Compact. Let`s wait and see, how will Sony handle support for one year old high end device. Peace. Don`t hate OS`s! ;)

They should do a sham update like Apple does with their older devices. Just take 4.4 and slap some 5.0 icons on it and slap the newer version of sense on it. That is what Apple essentially does.

Yeah exactly, as long as these tech w***es see the version number in their settings menu they'll be satisfied. Honestly I wouldn't update to Lollipop with all it's bugs.

Who the heck would update a phone with 1 GB RAM anyway? Smart move from HTC

Well, they paid for the phone expecting updates. The One Mini 2 doesn't come quite cheap either, so this news is pretty devastating for those who bought.

based on my experience with HTC and their words: "Desire HD, Desire, Sensation, Cha Cha" that's the reason why I never buy the HTC again. After that I've had LG Gpro, LG G2, LG S4 Lte-A, Kindle Amazon and now the Z3compact.

That's why you buy the previous flagship instead of a current mid-ranger. Better support for updates, performance still is kickass. I'm never buying midrangers ever again. (I'm buying an S5 this year and it's as cheap as $380)

Or you buy a motorola G which is going to 5.1 soon for the 2013 model and the 2014 is already on 5.0. It's the freaking OEM.

Any Motorola phone is elusive here. Plus, I wanna go for a flagship device with a killer performance (not to mention the hella low price compared to a current flagship).

OK I did what you did and got a moto x for $160 back in Dec.

That's really cheap! Although I found Moto X's battery life depressing....

Then get a Droid Maxx. It'll get you 8 hours easily and it's getting lollipop quite soon through Verizon and there are ROMs available as well.

Like I said, Motorola phones are like cryptids here. Plus, I actually like Touchwiz or Sense than stock, just not LG's UI. It's so ugly.

Coming from their moto g, yes, agreed. Seeing how I like having nfc, a gyro, great voice command, the amoled screen, it being faster, lte, better camera (use the xda hack camera and it gets rid of the overly harsh wavelet compression), and I can't go back :).

lol that's bull. They should make the HTC mini 2 get lolipop but then thats it. The camera was better than the M8 you know.

Well maybe those HTC Executive employees that stole them design & trade secret from their company and fled to China... Had the software for lollipop 5.0, also in the bag of stolen goods. O.o

If memory or CPU are such issue in getting Lollipop then why the hell nobody goes Sony's path and making powerful compact flagship. Pathetic HTC, really pathetic, but same goes for Samsung, they will ditch S5 Mini after 5.0.2, and Z3C will get at least 5.3

They can ditch the S5 mini all they want, the Galaxy Alpha is the real mini. It has the 20nm Exynos 5400 which trumps the SD801 in the Z3c. Then again, updates aren't about anything more than money and popularity. Again, nothing for Apple fans to brag about. Apple having money and their older devices being popular enough to pay your software engineers to do a sham update on them speaks to Apple ripping their consumers off and the amount of sheep they have more than anything else.
