Leaked photos reveal the Sony Xperia Z2 Compact, aka the Sony Xperia A2
When Sony released the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, it introduced a new type of  "mini" handset. Instead of taking a machete to the specs of the full-sized model, Sony left in such high-end components as a quad-core Snapdragon 800 CPU, a 20.7MP rear-facing snapper, and 2GB of RAM. The only major changes made were to the screen (4.3 inches compared with 5 inches on the Xperia Z1), the screen's resolution (720 x 1280 compared to 1080 x 1920), and the battery (2300mAh vs. 3000mAh). Many smartphone connoisseurs seem to prefer the Xperia Z1 Compact over the full-sized model.

Now that the Sony Xperia Z2 is the Japanese manufacturer's current flagship model, the Sony Xperia Z2 Compact should be close to getting launched. Sure enough, some leaked photographs from a Sony brochure reveal the next Xperia Compact model, which will be known as the Sony Xperia A2. The phone will be offered in Grey Black, White, Lavender and Orange. The leaked specs include a 4.3 inch screen with resolution of 720 x 1280, a quad-core 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 (801?) CPU, 2GB of RAM inside with 16GB of native storage. The dimensions are said to be 128mm × 65mm × 9.6mm. The back is supposedly plastic, like the one on the Xperia Z1 Compact.

Also in the brochure is a picture of the full-sized Sony Xperia Z2, expected to be available in Japan during June, via Docomo. You can check it all out by looking at the slideshow below.

Thanks for the tip, Alexander!

Sony where's your next ZL? Please the Z2's too big, the Mini's screen is too small IMO They should make a phone ~130 x 70 mm with 4.7-5" screen

And yet they call Samsung Samesung, and complain how the M8 looks exactly the same as the M7(which i dont think they do). Since the Z, Sony hasn't changed a bit in their phones

Keep in mind that Sony is starting from a design that many people like and find attractive whereas Samsung keeps using the same plastic blob that few people find attractive. And also remember the main aspect of "Samesung" is that they release hundreds of variants of phones that are mostly the same. The company basically is a chopshop where they copy one phone, chop the specs a bit, and ship it as a new phone model. This hits all the price points in the market, floods distribution channels keeping competitors out, and makes purchase decisions harder for customers. Basically Samesung carpet bombs the world with their blah plastic blobs. Yeah, they make a lot of money, nobody is disputing that. People just don't like how Samesung makes their money.

"People just don't like how Samesung makes their money". Sony fanboys doesn't represent the whole population. If people don't like it, they won't buy their products, then Samsung won't buy their products. Try again Mr. "Samsung don't spend into Innovation".

You do now. Because that is what makes Z1/Z2 so good when dropped. IMO There are two types of users: they don't drop their phones and want fancy new looking ones. And a user that seeks for quality and toughness.

Sony is making (trying to make?) some good phones. Unfortunately the company just can't execute and has a flawed global sales strategy. As Sony doesn't release phones to the US until after the expiration date has passed and the phone is a bad value for the money, this is not too interesting to me. OnePlus or Oppo will probably come out with a mini high-spec phone for the US before Sony -- for half the price.

But there isn't much of a difference in comparison to Z1compact if there's any..

Precisely I don't think Sony is stupid enough to make a new phone with so little differences.

Z, Z1 and Z1s. Does that ring a bell?

There were a lot of changes in Z and Z1, and as for Z1S, it was a different variant of the Z1 for US. So go away. Keep sucking Samesung.

I checked the source website. They changed their article. Now they say that this is probably the Z1 compact but with new colors for the japanese market. The phone features the same specs as the Z1 compact. So this phone is probably not the Z2 compact. But in the first version of the article, the website claimed it to be the z2 compact.

Sony should use capacitive buttons instead of on-screen buttons! On-screen buttons are just a waste of screen space! A Z2 with capacitive buttons would be perfect. The bezels are big enough to use them...

As someone who owns a Motorola Droid Razr M I'd have to agree. That 4.3" display becomes quite a bit smaller with the on-screen buttons, especially when compared to the Droid Mini. It would be nice if it would slide down when using a web browser at least. Get on it Google.

Yes finally Orange... thought specwise seems to be too close to Z1 C to be an upgrade.... hope this brings stereo speakes and no issues like the other... if so I will definitely make the jump from my tough Acro S

Something doesn't add up here. The hardware specs look to be exactly the same as the Z1 Compact with the exception of maybe an 801 snapdragon instead of the 800? In a size comparison the original Z1C is actually just s smidge smaller at 127 x 64.9 x 9.5 mm. Something tells me this might just be a variant of the Z1C (maybe for a specific carrier?). If not, this is about as small of an incremental upgrade as you can get. I was hoping they'd at least bump the Z2C screen size up to about 4.5 inches and keep the same size body since they had really thick bezel on the Z1C.

I dont think this is Z2 Compact. Leaked specs is way too similar to Z1 Compact. Almost no change.

come on, still 4.3 inches ? Even Iphone is coming out in 4.7 inches, try to adjust to 4.7 inches if u wanna compete with Iphone, cause i personally think that if Sony able to produce a phone with z2 specs, 4.7 inches, somemore with price that is lower than Iphone, surely will steal a lot sales from apple...

They probably will make a phone around the 4.6 inch like the zr.
