Leaked Microsoft Lumia 850 renders show a thin, metallic Windows 10 smartphone that might be coming soon
Months before Microsoft announced the Lumia 950 XL, Lumia 950, and Lumia 550 as its first Windows 10 smartphones, we heard that the company was also working on a Lumia 750 and a Lumia 850. Since the 750 and 850 weren't unveiled at the same time with the 950 XL, 950, and 550, some believed that they may have been cancelled. However, according to @OnLeaks, the Lumia 850 is still part of Microsoft's plans.

Interestingly, it's said that the Lumia 850 is built around a metal frame, and measures 155.9 x 77.23 x 6.92, thus becoming the thinnest Lumia smartphone to date. Assuming that these dimensions are correct, the 850 will be slightly larger than the Lumia 950 XL, which sports a 5.7-inch display and measures 151.9 x 78.4 x 8.1 mm. This means that the handset certainly doesn't have a 5-inch screen, as previously rumored, but a much larger one.

@OnLeaks revealed some renders of the Microsoft Lumia 850 (seen below), saying that they're based on industrial sketches received from a trusted source. Obviously, for now we can't know if this is indeed what the upcoming smartphone will look like. Hopefully, Microsoft will soon shed some light on this.

This is what the 950/950xl should have looked like.

the 950 XL looks great as is. Not sure what major difference you see other than "ooh shiny" metal.

And now every phone looks the same. Chinese phones had that camera bump before nexus 5x.

To the people that make stupid comments such as this looks like the Nexus 5X, just shut up. You're just like the i-Diots that used to say any phone with rounded corners was a ripoff of the iPhone. What do you expect, for other phones to have sharp edges and corners that will cut you? How about on the new iPhones that "copied" several Android phones and rounded out the edges? Phones are so slim now that most will have to have a camera hump to accomodate the width of the camera module. Stop saying this or that phone copied this other one. It's a phone, a rectangle with a screen that takes up most of one side, and several design traits are necessary for comfort or operability. There can't be that much differentiation except for small details.

Sir, you are a genius. Sometimes the most simple observations are the truest. From a short distance, a smartphone is a smartphone is a smartphone. The only real difference seems to be what's on the inside. Externals have reached critical mass.

I've got a 5X and this phone actually does look like the 5X, trust me. And the 950 looks like the 5X as well. Live with it.

If they do look similar, how is that wrong? The camera humps look similar on both. And as some have stated, there were earlier Lumias that look similar as well. No one is saying they shouldn't have done it, they're simply saying they look similar. No one that I've seen in the comments mentioned anything about copying besides you. Can we not make observations like that anymore? Should we check in with you now to rule on what we can and cannot say? Get over yourself.

It's not a problem to say they look alike, but the insinuation when most say it is that it is copying the other phone.

I bought a 640 cheap not too long ago and I am impressed by the OS, though apps are definitely lacking, it's not a bad OS, and I'm a heavy Android/ChromeOS guy (typing this on my Toshiba Chromebook 2 (2015). I hope MS does something significant as competition benefits us all and pushes both Android and iOS to innovate. That being said, that render looks really nice in white.

Are you sure this isn't a Nexus 5X running the WM10 ROM for android phones? Joking aside, I'm interested both in this phone and the progression of the WM10 ROM for Android Phones. Hope to see it expand beyond the Mi 4.

where is the camera shutter key? Lumia 830 had it. why MS removed it on Lumia 850?? No surprise they are going down.

yeah, the shutter key is the reason why phones are selling less - try harder.

Well, since this is a purported leak and not the announcement, we'll just have to wait and see if MS makes this phone, and if so, will it have a camera button?

UGLY.... Microsoft already abandoned Lumia series. I think i'll wait for surface phone
