LG beats Samsung and others to the punch, brings Android 5.0 Lollipop to the G3 "this week"

LG just announced that its G3 flagship smartphone will be updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop starting “this week” - we’re not sure if this means the week that ends tomorrow, November 9, or the one that begins on Monday, November 10. In any case, LG mentioned that the update will be first rolled out to G3 users in Poland, while folks in other key markets should expect to get it “in the near future.”

Following this announcement, it looks like LG is the very first manufacturer to officially bring Android 5.0 Lollipop to a non-Nexus, or non-Google Play Edition device. Earlier this week, we saw quite a few screenshots showing Lollipop running on the G3 (here and here), so perhaps the news of its imminent arrival shouldn’t surprise us.

Other manufacturers that should soon bring Lollipop to select devices include Samsung, Motorola, HTC, and Sony.

LG said that details regarding Lollipop updates for other devices will be revealed “in the near future.” For the record, LG Germany already confirmed that the G2 would get Lollipop sometime after the G3.

Wow, that's fast. Let's hope they didn't have enough time to re-implement all of the clutter...

tbh the power between my old z1 and my new Note in terms of raw power feels non existant.. so i'd rather go for the 350 Euro LG g3

Not in the EU, but in Bosnia 16/2GB model is 375€, 32/3GB model is 415€. You could find it even cheaper but I just checked one of the few stores that have working and up to date website, and they are slightly more expensive.

Because you want to enjoy pure android. Honestly I never liked pure Android before at all but after lollipop on my moto x my feelings and thinking about stock android has changed , its beautiful, smooth, colorful and most of all its feels like everything is new changed .. For first time I feels stock android can beat OEMS , there are few little things which other OEMS might be doing better but now I can live with stock android actually its more fun with it now. Before loving stock android, mine favorite skin was Sense 6, but still launcher of sense 6 is better ..for my taste at least.

Anything lacking in vanilla android can be easily added with apps etc. Some nice features that sense and touch wiz has are missing but nothing major. To be honest it doesnt matter as long as ur company gives u fast updates. And what LG is doing is amazing and more amazing than the amazing motorola.

1. Touch wiz which is a heave skin that modified android a lot. Needs time to be updated 2. They have 4-6 different version of S5, not to mention they have like 6-8 flagship phones each year that need updates. Then add in the list another 10-15 high end mid range phones that need updates. Then you get the picture why it takes time. The curse of samsung's domination with too many phones has its bad side when it comes to updates,

Why it only says "Beats Samsung"? how about it beat pretty much every company but why single out Samsung...We all know Samsung is going to take forever to bring Lollipop....

The title says "Samsung and others". I'm mentioning Samsung because it's the largest smartphone / Android vendor, and it's also LG's arch rival from Korea.
