LG Optimus G specs revealed as the phone is official
After hearing all about the LG Optimus G smartphone, a model that is the most powerful ever made by LG, we heard how the Korean manufacturer used a lot of vertical integration in the development of the phone. We also got to see what were apparently prototypes of the unit that LG is counting on to compete with other high-end models like the Samsung Galaxy S III. Now that the phone is officially coming to Korea next month as the LG Optimus G, we have the full specs to pass along, and we must warn you that you could find your mind blown.

Let's start with the 4.7 inch screen which will use the in-cell touch technology that the new Apple iPhone is expected to have. It makes for a thinner screen. In addition, the display will be a True HD IPS LCD with an RGB matrix and resolution of 768 x 1280. According to LG, when the display is turned off, the bezel and the body match the screen. The quad-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 lets quad-core and LTE play together and 2GB of RAM is on board. On back you will find a 13MP camera while a 1.3MP camera graces the front. A 2100mAh battery keeps the wheels spinning and Android 4.0 is installed.

After launching in Korea in September, the next stop is Japan with a release in black or red via NTT Docomo in October or November as the L-01E. A Global launch is in store for later in the year, so those drooling now should be able to pick up the device sometime before the ball drops in Times Square.

Personally I prefer rounded corners but unfortunately Apple won't have any of it. I don't like what LG is doing by launching in the US several months after releasing the phone. The device is great and if they ever want to grab a foothold in the US market they should release it ASAP. They need to stick their foot in while the door is still open.

This phone is going to be a success, it may put LG ahead of HTC so there's lots of fun.

I like the design. It's so LG. lol Hopefully they put a good sensor to back up that 13MP and good loudspeakers too which the current LG devices have been having sub par performances.

Ok, the design isn't as bad as what was once previously thought, it actually looks pretty nice. Let's just hope there are some premium materials in there. Though I'm still not too fond of LG's Optimus UI.

yeah, i warmed up a little more to it too. i do actually like their Optimus UI 3.0 though. it's 2nd to Moto's UI to me in terms of OEM UI's.

I think there was just some bad lighting on the leaked picture, that's all. I think Optimus 3.0 is better than previous versions, but just not quite there yet. Like how Touchwiz was for me, the only version I find bearable is the Touchwiz UX on the GS3; you have no idea how much I've wanted to get rid of my GS2, especially since I'm not too keen on rooting.

like Non_Sequitur mentioned i'd definitely give NOVA Launcher Prime a good shot. c:

There's always Nova Launcher. Also, this thing is a BEAST. As long as it has Jelly Bean, it'll be incredible.

Off of software and and update support, maybe. Because of hardware? No way in hell.

A very tempting design and specs only the LG brand image cam hold it down otherwise it should be a hit everywhere.

LG is a well known and trusted brand. Their poor result in smart phones is b-c of poor design. This phone will help to change that, the key is they must be fast.

With that monster processor and a separate chip for LTE I would rather wait for some battery tests before buying. If they are good: ready to go!

The S4 Pro doesn't have a seperate chip for LTE does it? Snapdragons are usually the ones with LTE ready to go. That's why in the US versions of a lot this years flagships have S4's instead of Tegra 3 or Exnyos 4412, because those quad-cores didn't support 42 Mbps HSPA+ or LTE.

You are partially right but in this case wrong. The S4 Pro MSM8960T (dual core) has the communications chip intgrated. But there isn't any quad core with Krait with the communications chip integrated in the SoC, as they were intended for tablets and not for smarphones. And due to the bigger batteries and screen power cosumption for tablets is OK to not have it integrated, as the battery savings are not that high there. And you can use the same chip for the "wifi only" version and the "3G/4G" one. But in this case they are using the S4 Pro APQ8064 (quad core), which only has Wifi, but not Phone modem included. So they'll need to add an extra chipset (MDM9615) to add that functionality. That's the same case the Tegra 3 or Exnyos 4412, which both lack comm chip integration. And please don't say they "don't support", that's purely Qualcomm marketing staff. They do support it as far as a new chip is added for the funcionality, it's just not integrated in the chip. The good news is that the new chipset is also built in 28nm not like the old ones in 45nm, so it shouldn't be such a battery hogger. But better safe than sorry! That was my comment about. Sorry if I went too "geek" now, but I felt compelled to explain my previous short comment.

Ohh, thank you for the correction. I really don't mind long comments too much, as long as they aren't trying to draw out and explain something that is common knowledge, especially in a stuck up manner, which yours certainly didn't. Also in my previous comment, by saying the Exynos and Tegra didn't support LTE, I meant without the use of another chip. Should've included that to be more clear, my bad.

They developed that technology together with Apple, I dont think they'll get sued for it, no LG device as of now is Apple trying to get banned anyways..

Mouth watering specs, all LG has to do now is, keep those updates on time, and not locking the bootloader like Moto does.

The only thing that'll make me buy this phone, is if it has good 3rd party ROM support ... that is one of the reasons i bought the s3 instead of the one x or waiting for this. Oh, it's also LG, which means lack of support .... I'll pass

And I'm sure Apple's legal team is preparing a suit over the fact that it is rectangular and has a front and a back
