Huawei releases new Emotion UI for Android 4.0 ICS

Huawei releases new Emotion UI for Android 4.0 ICS
Huawei is one of the biggest phone makers in the world, but chances are if you live in the West, you haven’t heard much about its phones. And no wonder, carriers are often rebranding Huawei devices under their own names and if you ever get to see a Huawei logo it’s likely on an unlocked phone. The Chinese phone maker is working on fixing this and improving the presence of its brand with the new Ascend series of phones, and along with that it brings a brand new user interface called the Emotion UI for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The bad news though is that the skin is available only for China in the moment and works with the Huawei Ascend P1 and P1E, with the Ascend D quad also likely to get it once it launches. It’s a pity because at least the first impression from this skin is of a clean, well executed attempt. It may not be better than stock Android, but some variety is always welcome.

Huawei summarizes the work it’s done by saying the new Emotion UI comes with plenty of scene modes, access to the Huawei cloud, intelligent guidance, voice assistant (but only in Chinese) and personalized looks.

You can get the Emotion UI beta for ICS straight from the official website at the source link below, if you’re in China and sporting a Huawei phone.

I have to say that I'm not too impressed with the UI, but I would like to see if there are any special functionality that makes it differ from the rest of competition. Still, appearance-wise, I'm not sold on it.

Hi, Emotion UI gives more that the Traditional Android Features. There is well initial response for Emotion UI. Even though there are some known issues, It really provides a good experience. Some of the Emotion UI Features include: > Me Widget Better utilize your screen real-estate by combining all the information and functions you need in a single, customizable widget. > EZ Folder Make applications management less tedious by adding applications to a folder in bulk. > Predefined Profiles Get started with one of our five predefined profiles: Standard, Driving, Sleep, Outdoor, and Meeting. > Extensive Control A wide range of settings such as screen brightness, auto reply, ringer volume can be controlled through profiles switching. > Contextual Help We provided assistance at places and moments where they are most needed. > Rich Graphics All help content includes pictures to make them easier to understand and fun to use. > Non-technical language We use plain, easy-to-understand language to better accommodate non-technical mined users. > Animated Weather Wallpaper Find out what the weather is at a glace right from your home screen. Our animated weather wallpaper is both informative and fun. Overall my experience is good with Emotion UI.
