How to pimp your iPhone with custom colors for the iOS notification bar
Got a jailbroken iPhone laying around? Good - you've got the master key to the Pearly Gates! What a jailbreak and the inevitable Cydia install do for iOS is to enable near Android-levels of tweaks and personalization. Among the cool stuff you can do after taking down the garden's walls is changing your iPhone's status bar and icon label colors. Android users, hear a bell ringing? Bet you do! Here's how they do this trick in iOS land.

Open up Cydia and install SpringResearch, or open this link on your iPhone. Respring (reset the UI) your iPhone. You will find SpringSearch in Settings, where the rest of your installed apps reside. Enter its menu and, as you can see, SpringResearch is all about the coloring of your status bar.

There are three editable sections and a toggle to switch the status bar on or off. Use the editable ones to change the color and opacity for each. You will be given a RGBA color swatch/slider thing, where RGB is ye' old'e red, green, and blue, and A stands for opacity. Make up a neat color on the go, or enter the dark & mysterious HEX value of your favorite shade of pink. Your call!

When you're done, go back to SpringResearch and hit Apply (Respring). You should see the change immediately after the device restarts its UI. You can go back to SR and edit the settings anytime.

At first I was thinking "holy crap, iPOS's appearance can be customized more than changing wallpaper?!?!". And then I read the word "Jailbroken". Then I thought "Ah, I should have guessed."

Unrelated, but does anyone else have "Come and Get Your Love" from the "Guardians of the Galaxy" soundtrack stuck in your head? Well, you do now.

Why do you even have to do that? It isn't worth JailBreaking.

I think any colour other than the default looks kinda ugly..

Why is customizing these things so important to people. I get girls that want to match their shoes, but really? I rather have ability to customize app permissions, notifications and how they are presented, which default apps appear and which don't like the browser, camera, etc. changing colors or even backgrounds, fonts and all that is really a time waster - I pick an OS with best looking interface and transitions, and let muscle memory do the rest - that's how I like my tools. It's more important for me to have an interface (UI) that disappears and unnoticeable, not buncha buttons and menus that just make the thing more nuisance to use.

How big of a sheep are you? Do you wear only stuff you bought at the mall? Do you only listen to to 40 radio stations? Are Adam Sandler and Will Ferrel your favorite movie stars? Do you drink PBR? Some people aren't content with the bland garbage others are presented with and accept as the norm. Wear a plain white t-shirt that doesn't advertise the company you bought it from. Listen to some Zappa or TMBG. Watch "This is Spın̈al Tap" and "Brazil". Try Dogfish Head's 60 Minute IPA or St. Bernardus Abt. 12. Don't be content with the norm, but if you must, at least understand that others might not be as boring as you.

For me to "customize" a phone is like customizing a hammer. It's a tool. And I found my iOS to work best out of the box. All I asked is why it's so important to customize a tool. But your little s**t for brain decides to insult me. Don't ever f**ken call me a sheep - I have my preference - you have yours. Don't ever insinuate what I watch or listen to. I made my point based on what I like - you're a f**ken sheep that has to constantly tell everyone that they preferences they like are wrong because you don't agree.

Yeah, that's all fine and dandy, But after a while it gets boring to look at. When you have the ability to change things, it breathes new life into your device. That is why people like to theme their devices.

For a sec, I thought there is a possibility for customization beyond fancy Cases!
