HTC Inspire 4G users grabbing some Gingerbread goodness via OTA update
The owners of the HTC Inspire 4G are not only receiving an OTA update to Android 2.3, they are also getting some enhancements to their phone as well as some bug fixes. According to HTC, the update started last Thursday but is apparently picking up momentum now. The version of Gingerbread being installed on the phone is Android 2.3.3 which means no gTalk support for now.

Enhancements include updated features to the application tray, an update to FriendStream, added Quick Settings in the Notification
Window, improved power management functions and better media experience. Throw in the proverbial can of Raid to kill the bugs dead, and you have an outline of the changes coming with the update.

For a more detailed list of changes and to manually start the update if you're too impatient to wait for the OTA one, visit the sourcelink. If you have already downloaded Android 2.3 on your HTC Inspire 4G, let us know what you think about Gingerbread and what changes you've noticed on your phone by dropping us a note in the Comments Box below.

I checked for an update and it says that its up to date with Android 2.2.1. I still haven't got an update.

You can manually update it on htc's website so calm down impatient people. Anyway, good for this phone. I consider this one of the best phones on AT&T. When I tried it out, it was only 99 dollars. Considering it has the same specs as the Thunderbolt but better design. It really is a nice phone, very short in height yet the phone has a huge and wide 4.3 inch display with super LCD. It also has 768MB of RAM. Now that it's getting Gingerbread it'll be even better.

Don't know why you got thumbed down on this one. I agree, the Inspire is fantastic. My only disappointment, and it's a small one, is that it's not getting Sense 3.0. But that's okay, because it's already so good. I'm also pleased at the fact that the update was released a bit sooner than expected (I figured it would happen mid month at the soonest). Anyway, GREAT JOB, HTC!

I agree, I hope it has the cool new Sense lock screen.

I can actually report back to you on that one. My two friends just got the Inspire; I'll update one of them tonight.

Please do. Oh and another problem I had with the Inspire was the bad battery life. HTC really dropped it when it came to battery life until recently.

The battery life seems decent on their models. I'll get back to you ASAP with a report on the post update status. :)

You had the Sensation right? Yea HTC realized they needed to boost their phone's battery life so they bumped it up to 1750 I believe. The Inspire only had a 1200. So there was a big difference in battery life, but still a very good phone nonetheless. Just have a charger with you if you are at work 8 hours a day.

Actually, update's not happening tonight. My friend doesn't want to do it; having worked with computers for twenty years has made her paranoid about being an early adopter of a given update. She wants to make sure the update doesn't have any crippling bugs that pop up. Can't say I blame her, it's solid logic. But it is frustrating, lol.

I've been checking for the update all day and it still hasn't come through. I'm too lazy to backup my phone to my computer and do it manually. OTA update needs to come faster!!

I just finished updating my inspire so far so good. One advice is do a backup and also please don't sync your contacts from your Google account when booting your phone it wi ask to sync with Google account don't do it try to restore your contacts from your SD card instead cause when I did it my contacts pictures would not show when texting somehow it didn't like something I did so I had to redo the whole thing.

Ceasekilla, I did the update but stupidly synced my contacts and now I am having the same issue you did with pictures and names not showing up in my messages, just the phone number. How did you fix this? It won't let me redo the update. Thanks!

Why are you all so behind in getting the update? is ATT that slow or whomever sent out the update. I was on Android 2.3.4 when you were all on 2.2 on my HTC Inspire, aka Desire HD ok really the reason why, because I have my phone rooted and get to Mod my phone and don't have to worry about ATT updates and my phone works perfect. But overall you should think about getting your phones rooted that way you can get to experience the phone in it's full potential.

just finished downloading the update. Mine did not find the over the air update so I manually installed it. Feels much smoother and the notifications bar is improved as well how there is a favorites icon for apps that you use alot. Updates to the widgets as well as Sense also is improved. So exciting to finally have 2.3 on my Inspire! Hopefully it is much more stable than the 2.2 in the long run and hope it keeps the new android users away from going to the iPhone cult.

go on the HTC website and look for the Inspire 4G...when you find the phone look it up under specs then downloads. you should be able to find it it will ask you to download it to ur computer and you have to connect ur phone to the computer via USB

Doesn't look like a major update. I looked at everything and all I found new are pages in the "all apps" section, (which I hate) and the only cool thing I could find was a new quick settings section in notifications. Nothing else new I could find.

Installed 2.3.3,, no problems. Only comment is that it's no big deal, just hope they fixed a lot of bugs. Still can't delete multiple emails all at once.

I don't understand y everyone is complaining about their battery. The battery on MY Inspire is GREAT! My fone has only died on my once or twice and flashed to red a few times and I'm a HEAVY user and have had my phone since march. I suggest turning ur screen down and it still wouldn't b that dim at all. Now for the gingerbread, I downloaded it, the only differences I've seen so far is another colomn n the drop down menu, and the app tray is diff. Videos on tudou have been slow bit I'm not sure if its due to the update or not. Utube vids run great. And the preinstalled twitter app is different. More like the mobile version. But like I said about the battery, turn ur screens down to at least half

It would b nice if the next update would allow us to print screen.
