Google's Pixel 3 XL first camera samples leak out, make lone cameras great again

Google's Pixel 3 XL first camera samples leak out, make lone cameras great again
It's an old adage - 'Google can do with one camera what others can't do with three' - but, judging from what are claimed to be the first camera samples taken with a pre-production Pixel 3 XL unit, it's totally valid.

We kid the P20 Pro, currently the only phone with three cameras - it is actually capable of taking some amazing photos, especially with the Night mode - yet the Pixel 3 XL seems to be on par with much less impressive camera setup. Even with what is most likely not a retail unit yet, the dynamic range is pretty amazing, colors are vibrant, yet not oversaturated, and the objects very well defined, without a hint of softness or artificial sharpening in the frame.

Be patient, as these are the full-res samples from the Insta account of a Moscow tech blogger who apparently has the device in his hands, as he already leaked plenty of new high-res pictures of its design and retail box.

To wit, the Pixel 3 XL is expected to land with a giant 6.7" display housing a top notch, Snapdragon 845 chipset, 4GB RAM, and unimpressive on paper, but pretty breathtaking in reality, single 12MP camera on the back. Oh, there is a portrait shot as well, but it's not clear whether it's taken with the front-facing shooter, or still the rear camera.

If the info about pixel 3 on par with P20 pro camera even in low light is true then I'll have to say it is truly a great achievement for Google. Huawei used 3 sensor one of them is monstrous for smartphone camera to achieve the result yet Google is doing it with only single camera. I wonder how great the low light photo will be if Google use another monochrome sensor for their pixel 4.

Hardware is huge advantage for P20 Pro, also 6s of night mode. 1/2.55" is half of 1/1.7". Pixel cannot even go 1/4s. P20 Pro and XZ2 Premium can only be matched at night by Mate 20 Pro.

Still waiting to see what Google does with multiple rear camera Probably will wait for Pixel 4 vs Huawei P40 Pro vs S11 before upgrading

Nothing beyond already available flagships. With that ugly design, Camera is not that impressive to buy it .

Proof that slapping tons of cameras on the back of a phone is just a gimmick.

So you think the Pixel 3 will be able to match P20 Pro's 3X and 5X zoom?

I saw a portrait shot but not a portrait mode shot. Anyway I expect Google to nail it but no matter how good they spruce things up with one camera, some things like LG's wide angle lens you just can't bypass with software. Sure you can do a panorama but that's different. Also I'm very annoyed that it seems as if the Pixel 3 is being announced next week and not the LG V40 unless LG is doing another quiet launch or is holding off until after IFA. In that case I might just get the Pixel 3 and call it a day. Also hope the audio recording is much better than the Pixel 2.

Sony has also displayed an amazing single camera setup, even if mainstream reviewers pretend otherwise in order to protect their privileges with bigger companies like Samsung and Apple.

looks great and I wouldn't expect less from google, but I bet these photos were edited to enhanced tones, shadows, etc for leak purposes. We should really not praise the devices camera til we see the review videos

It will have a great camera, but it'll lack the wide angle and telephoto capabilities of competitors.
