Galaxy Alpha photo leaks again, September release date tipped

Samsung's crack at a metal Galaxy phone has leaked again, alongside a release date claimed to be for the end of September, and an eventual price of about EUR 500 ($670) unsubsidized. The tipsters reiterate that only the frame and sides of the Galaxy Alpha are made of metal, while the removable back inherits the perforated look and feel of the S5 or S5 mini, for instance.

As far as the final specs, the source corroborates all the info we've heard so far about the handset - a 4.7" Super AMOLED HD display panel, Exynos 5433 or Snapdragon 805 processors, depending on the market, 2 GB of RAM, a 12 MP rear camera, and 32 GB or 64 GB of internal memory. The Alpha will apparently also sport the heart rate and fingerprint scanners that are coming with the S5, too. Sounds like a reasonable gamble coming from Samsung, with some premium design elements thrown in, yet the familiar look and feel of the modern Galaxy line.

The end-of-September release date timeframe indicates that Samsung might indeed be prepping the Galaxy Alpha as a direct competitor to Apple's iPhone 6, which is expected to appear around that time, and sport a 4.7" panel in its turn. As for the announcement date, Korean media is reporting today that the Galaxy Alpha could be unveiled as soon as this Wednesday, August 13th, rather than the IFA expo in Berlin later on, where Note 4 is expected to be the star of the show.
