Galaxy Alpha photo leaks again, September release date tipped

Samsung's crack at a metal Galaxy phone has leaked again, alongside a release date claimed to be for the end of September, and an eventual price of about EUR 500 ($670) unsubsidized. The tipsters reiterate that only the frame and sides of the Galaxy Alpha are made of metal, while the removable back inherits the perforated look and feel of the S5 or S5 mini, for instance.

As far as the final specs, the source corroborates all the info we've heard so far about the handset - a 4.7" Super AMOLED HD display panel, Exynos 5433 or Snapdragon 805 processors, depending on the market, 2 GB of RAM, a 12 MP rear camera, and 32 GB or 64 GB of internal memory. The Alpha will apparently also sport the heart rate and fingerprint scanners that are coming with the S5, too. Sounds like a reasonable gamble coming from Samsung, with some premium design elements thrown in, yet the familiar look and feel of the modern Galaxy line.

The end-of-September release date timeframe indicates that Samsung might indeed be prepping the Galaxy Alpha as a direct competitor to Apple's iPhone 6, which is expected to appear around that time, and sport a 4.7" panel in its turn. As for the announcement date, Korean media is reporting today that the Galaxy Alpha could be unveiled as soon as this Wednesday, August 13th, rather than the IFA expo in Berlin later on, where Note 4 is expected to be the star of the show.

I like how it looks like the S2, but the shape of the home button is weird, I prefer the one on the S2.

I'm not sure if this phone will make an impact. This one does not scream next gen since it is based on the S5. I consider this a MEH and it will agitate some people since they purchased the S5 already.

If I have the S5, I won't buy this because this is just a minor difference. If I want premium, I'd rather choose Xperia Z2, One M8 or Ascend P7 etc. instead.

If u have s5 u won't choose any of those. Better to wait for real s5 killer..

Why not you tell us what you know about this phone? Seems like you know a lot more than most people here. Generally idiots tend to do that.

I stand by my own opinion and preference, you have no rights to question or disagree with it. I'm like the others here, I know the leaks about this phone. Also, don't be an idiot, knowing a lot more than people doesn't mean that he/she is an idiot. Albert Einstein knows a lot more than us, and does this mean that he's an idiot? Please think twice before posting a comment, you're disrespecting people. That's all I have to say. Peace!

You can say the same thing about the upcoming iphone which will not scream next gen phone and it will sell like hot bread.

You can't say the same thing with iPhone. It will sell big more or less due to fanatical fans and those who find Android too hard to use. Also profits is higher for Apple since you buy all apps in the Apple Apps Store and licensing from Apple for cases, apple certified headphones and periphery. Lastly, overpriced accessories like $20 cable.

But it won't be inside Galaxy Alpha. And Snapdragon 805 also will not power this device.

Samsung only cares about profit. They don't care about the durability of the phone. Love u sony. Fingers crossed for Xperia Z3 and Z3 compact, truly premium phones. (Y)

What Samsung should fear more isn't Apple but the Chinese competitor, Apple doesn't harm much. Because iPhone 5s isn't his "final form"

Either this picture or the ones in the last article are fake, because the "Alpha" in the last article had bumps on the sides and this one doesn't.

Nice catch, this one is not scalloped on edges.

That's caused by the angle it's shot in, this certainly isn't fake.

I concur with your sentiment. You can just long-press the app key. And I believe you can switch it back in TouchWiz.
