Ok Google, where is my Dark theme toggle for Gmail?

Ok Google, where is my Dark theme toggle for Gmail?
Google has been adding Dark theme to most of its core Android apps. This setting changes the usual dark text on a white background to white text on a black or gray background. The idea behind Dark theme is to protect the eyes of users and bystanders from the retina melting white background at night or in a dark room. And with a black background, Dark theme can also save a little battery life on devices using an AMOLED screen. That's because these displays create the color black by turning off pixels in the appropriate area of the screen. Pixels that are turned off do not draw power from the battery. And there are some who just prefer the Dark theme look.

Google recently added Dark theme to the Play Store, one of two apps that Android users have been dying to see in Dark theme. The other app is Gmail and back in June, the feature was being tested on some Android phones. But since Google's intention was to give Android 10 users the ability to sync Dark theme with the new build's system-wide Dark theme toggle, the rollout didn't take place until after Android 10 was officially released. Or did it?

Our Pixel 2 XL running on Android 10 has yet to see the Dark theme toggle on Gmail and we ask facetiously whether this is a ploy to get us to purchase one of the new Pixel 4 models that will be introduced tomorrow. In all seriousness, Droid-Life reports that the phones owned by two of its writers have received the Dark theme for Gmail. But that is obviously an amazing coincidence since most Android users still have yet to receive what is obviously the result of a server-side update.

When Dark mode does come to your Gmail app, those running Android 10 will have three options to choose from. They can select to have the app run Light theme (white background, black text), Dark theme (black background with white text) or follow the system-wide setting chosen by the device owner.

If you have or haven't received Dark theme for your Gmail app, let us know by leaving your comments in the box below.

I've been checking the Gmail app settings multiple times a day since I first saw postings about the server-side, phased rollout in early September. I still don't have the option on my Pixel 2XL running Android 10.

My Vivo Nex is on Android 9 and has system wide dark theme already. I have dark theme for all the Google apps except Gmail. So blame your OEM. You don't need Android 10 to get it.

I'm on Android 8 Oreo and exactly the same for me here. And I'm also using Microsoft Outlook as well since they beat Google and they're at least letting us have dark theme on there app unlike Google. Happy to see I'm not alone being really pissed off at Google for lying to us and forcing this ugly Stark White theme on us all and not letting us all have the dark theme! Some of us can't afford to buy a new phone just to get Android 10!

Pixel 3 XL, nope. I can't tell how much misinformation I see on this. Nothing has changed. Google is holding out, intentionality. For the Pixel 4. Dicks

Worse than never getting dark in Gmail is getting it in assistant for a week and then it disappearing. C'mon Google. You're better than this.

No luck here on Pixel 3a XL. Is it so hard to go into the code and change #ffffff to #000000? Same goes for WhatsApp. Been waiting forever!

Pixel 3 XL, Android 10, all updates, everything dark EXCEPT for Gmail. It's a myth. I think the tech writer that said they have it are fibbing.

Pixel 3XL running Android 10 plus latest updates of everything and still no Gmail dark mode. Makes zero sense Google.

Haven't seen the new settings yet, but I appear to have all the required updates. This is really annoying.

Pixel 3. Android 10. Google Fi. Google controls *all*of the variables. No dark theme. Not a happy camper.

I have an LG V30, no dark mode for Gmail yet. However, those apps already supporting dark mode are not black at all. They are dark grey. This means pixels on those amoled screens will not be switched off at all. A few non-Google apps really have black modes, and those look fantastic. The background pixels are really off even with the highest brightness settings. So I see Google dark mode is only halfway there, it helps your eyes in a dark environment, but don't think it saves battery at all.

Samsung S10, android 9, almost all Google apps dark, but not the most important, Gmail. This thing has really got me, I check 4 or 5 times a day like a maniac...

Pixel 3xl running Android 10 still no dark theme. Contacted Google 1 team they just say to wait for the update. 3 weeks is rediculous. iOS doesn't rollout updates they just do it. Specs on the new Pixel 4 suck. Only think worthwhile is the camera. All the gestures are fluff
