The iPhone SE 2 could escape Samsung's display monopoly

The iPhone SE 2 could escape Samsung's display monopoly
It ain't an official Apple supply chain rumor until Korean media reports it, as their fellow countrymen from Samsung and LG are providing the bulk of iPhone displays. Thus, when the words "screen" and "budget iPhone" come together in a Korean publication, we are all ears. If you recall, there is nothing budget-er than the iPhone SE, and we've been waiting on a successor for a long time.

As if to add more water to the iPhone SE 2 rumor mill, today's publication is pegging LG as the LCD display supplier for Apple's upcoming budget king. Given its dependence on Samsung for everything iPhone and display related, the move to LG for a phone that will likely sell in the tens of millions given the rumored $399 price, is a smart one.

The deal isn't entirely done yet, apparently, as LG scoffed at being the main provider for budget iPhone displays, but given that the customer is Apple, with all the economies of scale involved, it is likely to reconsider.

According to one industry insider, LG is perfectly aware that the golden days of high-end iPhone LCD panel supplies are over, so the iPhone SE 2 screen should suffice:

Samsung's display monopoly? Did anyone force apple to buy screens from them?

No other can supply this high number of oled screens. LG dedicates huge part of production to big screens for monitors and tvs. They cannot make 250 million mobile oled screens. Samsung probably makes more than 500 million per year.

Samsung didn't supply Apple with LCD displays. Only OLED. Btw LG supplied Apple with LCD displays for older iPhones in the past. So Apple is making an iPhone SE 2, which should be called iPhone 8s or something along that line, especially since it is the same size as an iPhone 8, and not an SE.

LCD's in 2020. So LED in 2025 will be innovative.

I hate Samsung amoled display so this is good for apple to get off from Sammy. There’s a news in korea texh that Sammy is producing many displays for iphone 11 pro due to overwhelming demand of the greatest 2019 flagship killer.

Of course you hate them. They're the best on the market, but not Apple, so they enrage you.
