Apple iPhone 5 gets $60 haircut at Walmart starting Saturday
Starting today, Walmart is making a couple of permanent changes to its pricing of the Apple iPhone. The Apple iPhone 5 is getting a $60 reduction in price from $189 to $129 while the Apple iPhone 4S will be just $39 after a $50 discount. These are both highly unusual discounts because of Apple's limitations on such price cuts. The 70% slice in the price of the Apple iPhone 4S is a rather high percentage cut. To get the discount, buyers must sign a two-year contract from AT&T or Sprint.

Walmart has to contend with Best Buy's current promotion that allows Apple iPhone 4S and Apple iPhone 4 users with an upgrade in their pocket, to trade-in either of those phones and receive a free Apple iPhone 5. Best Buy tried that for one day and it was such a success that for 9 days starting yesterday (Friday) the promotion will continue to run.

Walmart and Best Buy could be looking to clear the decks before the next iteration of the Apple iPhone is introduced. Historically, purchases of  the iPhone come to a halt between the introduction of a new model and its launch. The Apple iPhone 5S is rumored to keep the 4 inch screen, offer a faster A7 processor, better camera sensor, and possibly a fingerprint reader. Alleged leaks of iPhone 5S parts are beginning to turn up which usually occurs prior to the introduction of a new iPhone. There are also rumors that a low-cost Apple iPhone will be unveiled this year.

With the way iphone 4-4S-5 are being reduced. A person would have to be a fool to buy a low-cost iphone. I personally don't think the low-cost iphones will be a hit.

The low-cost iPhones are selling like hotcakes. For example, Verizon Wireless couldn't be more pleased based on SEC filings.

Topcat488 means the rumored low cost iphones, not the current models.

no, you can't buy locked phones with need to use a credit card, so even if u bring it to india and unlock it, you can't escape from the phone bills and the owner of the credit card will face problems as he will lose his credit score... locked phones are worse and they end up costing more than the unlocked phones

yes, you have to chose a monthly plan, the cheapest plan on at&t(its a leading telecommunications corp in usa, like airtel in india) is around $40 per month... and you have to pay $40 every month for the next 2 years(for a 2 year plan). ....they are not giving you any discount, you will pay the full price through your monthly bills... infact, the phone bills make the phone more expensive than the unlocked phones because you can get cheaper plans and save india the call/data charges are much much cheaper than in the usa... for example, if airtel charges you $2 for a service, at&t will charge you around $29 for the same service... ...if u want, just buy an unlocked phone from the usa because unlocked(full priced) phones are cheaper in USA... if you want a high end phone for cheap price ask you cousin to buy a nexus 4 for you from the play store if you want an iphone, you have to pay more

Techspace is Right, You are going to have to pay alot more than just the unfront charges for the locked phone.. unless your cousin is a student and plans to leave the country then he can pay for the phone using the credit card and then come here permanently.. alot of students do that for a quick buck... but i would also suggest you buy a Google Nexus 4.. it is much more capable and has a premium feel to it.. search the internet for it.. you can buy it from Flipkart for Rs. 25999/-. With the dollar rate shooting through the roof its about Rs. 2500 more expensive in India than the US. I would suggest you to buy it from India as you will get full warranty.. I got mine from the US a few months ago and let me tell you.. its the best phone out there for the price you're paying.
