Symbian surpassed by iOS as the smartphone platform king of the UK
Apple iPhone ownership grew by 46% by this past May. It has not been specified which iPhones are the primary culprit in such substantial growth, but the iPhone 4 is suspect #1. Nokia’s aging Symbian platform has worn the crown for a while but they have had difficulties keeping up with the times. Ownership fell off by 10%, cutting the number of users across the nation to 4.5 million.
Google’s rapidly-growing Android platform also saw substantial growth, but still comes in as a close second when it comes to dominance in the UK. Adoption of the little green robot in the UK jumped up by a ridiculous 634%. That is a monstrous increase for what is now the world’s largest mobile platform.
Symbian now sits in third, while RIM (59% increase) and Microsoft (32% decrease) are in fourth and fifth respectively. The rise of iOS and Android is becoming the norm around the globe. Tell us what you think in the comments below.

Android is about to overtake iOS in the UK now. Good news.
No surprise here though, given that it already has in the US and other parts of the world. I would expect the UK to follow, and it is.

i see phone arena does read the user comments. They mentioned "which iphone" instead of just saying "iphone". Hooray! lol. We will get fair comparisons yet.. lol

You're so blinded by hate that you can't even admit a fellow android supporter is wrong.
63. Sniggly (Posts: 7024; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
Even if he's wrong, it's hateful and disgusting to go calling him "phonearena's dumbest poster."
68. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
You've insulted me many times on here. So it's only not ok if they support android? Hypocrite.
92. Sniggly (Posts: 7024; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
No. Remixfa was doing nothing to offend anyone, his post was friendly and harmless, and I know for a fact that he isn't even close to the dumbest person on here.
You, however, spew as much bile as you can at everyone. You treat everyone who dislikes Apple like s**t, and then scream "persecution!" when it's done back to you. Now THAT'S hypocrisy.
95. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
no I just give you fandroids a taste of your own medicine. You come to every Apple article to talk s**t and you get smacked back down with facts. Hard to deal with I know.
113. Sniggly (Posts: 7024; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
"smacked down with facts"
You mean like the "fact" that Honeycomb is on 1 percent of Android tablets, instead of Android devices overall?
Or the "fact" that somehow iPods can be included when discussing smartphone market shares?
Or the "fact" that Android, while looking more like Windows and BREW phones in its GUI, is somehow a "half baked copy" of iOS just because it's on touchscreen dominant phones and has an app store?
Taco, you're delusional. And hostile. You're practically rabid. Calm the f**k down, son.

If you weren't blinded by hatred you'd see all the things android copied. If it didn't copy anything how come HTC is in trouble for infringing on two patents? I may have been wrong on the honeycomb percent but that doesn't change the fact it's beta.
132. Sniggly (Posts: 7024; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
HTC is in trouble because Apple would patent things as basic as using color displays and using electricity to power phones if it could. And considering that HTC is perfectly willing to pay Microsoft almost as much as Google makes off of Android for their patents, something tells me that even IF Apple tried to negotiate first, their demands were too high. Just like Apple's negotiations with Nokia over the royalties Nokia wanted out of Apple for violating THEIR patents.
I'm not saying Android is completely original, and considering how enthusiastic Apple is about patenting EVERYTHING THEY DO ON THEIR PHONES, even things they didn't invent, Android may actually infringe on a couple of patents. But you have to admit, if you're being objective, that you can clearly tell the difference between any Android phone and an iPhone if you give it more than a half a second glance. And that's IF you have a less than average IQ.
133. Sniggly (Posts: 7024; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
Oh, and thank you for admitting that you were wrong on the percentage amount. That was very sporting of you.
117. Heatfan316 (unregistered)
IOS this IOS that. That's all you think about you are consumed by it. Right now you have an IOS butt plug shoved up your ass pumping icrap in to your brain that's why you come with these bulls**t posts that you say are facts but are really bulls**t,fabricated lies you find on these icrap websites you go on, listen we still don't believe you. Moron!

Taco, is your name Corky in real life? I just have to know.
96. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
Very creative my friend. You're come backs are about a 3rd grade level. Did you read up on how VZ Comm and VZW are the same company?
114. Sniggly (Posts: 7024; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
Weeellll...not really. Verizon Wireless is actually a joint venture between Verizon Comm and Vodafone. The products are different, the customer service is different, policies are different. They are only connected at the absolute roots, hence why VZ Communications drags down Verizon Wireless every quarter and makes it look like it's doing much worse than it really is.
I mean, technically you're both right and wrong.

iOS and android are growing pretty fast but android can never surpass iOS because iPhone is felt by the users as supremousy while the android is felt normally it's because their are lot or cheap android devices than costly and people always want premium and it is where iPhone stands.
3. BobbyTaba (Posts: 316; Member since: 11 Aug 2010)
yea most ppl that have low end phones think android sucks but its their s**tty phone. Thats why its good that there is only one iphone because everything is more consistent. Android should require from 2012 that only phones that have dual core should be made with a 3.5 inch screen with 540x960 resolution and all phones should use ice cream after 2012

Google doesn't care about quality. They're going for market share because that gives them a bigger audience to advertise to. Android is just another way to advertise for them.
37. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
You're blinded by hate wouldn't expect you to understand.
47. Sniggly (Posts: 7024; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
The company that doesn't care about quality would just copy and paste its phone and MP3 player OS onto its tablets.
76. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
and it has the highest user satisfaction. Only 1% of tablets use androids half baked honeycomb.
87. remixfa (Posts: 13905; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
well, if you market to idiots and make something idiot proof, of course the idiots will be happy.
ahhh. .its magical!!!! lolol
88. remixfa (Posts: 13905; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
no you moron.. like always u dont read. 1% of ANDROID is honeycomb.
Android is 30% of the tablet market. Most Android tablets sold at this point are Honeycomb.
93. Sniggly (Posts: 7024; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
Apparently you paid attention to Gemini. Too bad, because he's completely wrong. It's one percent of ALL ANDROID DEVICES. PERIOD.
What, have you forgotten how to read?
99. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
What I read is 1% of the tablet market uses honeycomb which is pretty pathetic. Even if it's higher it's still so low it's meaningless.
116. Sniggly (Posts: 7024; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
Now who's blinded by hate, Taco? You're spouting complete bulls**t now. Where did you read that 1 percent of the tablet market is on Honeycomb? You didn't, so stop lying.
And I'm willing to bet the actual percentage is much higher now, especially since the XOOM is now a bargain compared to the iPad and has a proper endcap at Best Buys, and the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is out.
149. remixfa (Posts: 13905; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
dont forget that the Transformer is shipping 400k units a month now. They wouldnt be doing that if they werent selling them.
151. Sniggly (Posts: 7024; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
Yeah, seriously, right? And it's still been selling out.
167. remixfa (Posts: 13905; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)

You're getting desperate. After being proven wrong over and over you've resorted to juvenile insults. Run along now youngster before you hurt yourself. Androidcentral may be a good place for you. YOu can circle jerk with all the android fanboys.
150. remixfa (Posts: 13905; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
can u show me where ive been proven wrong over n over again? Last I checked, uve been wrong at least 2 or 3 times in this article alone.. lol.
Your the dumbest fanboy ive ever seen.. and thats saying something. Maybe even dumber than Miz. At least he has the sense to not comment on every article an constantly remind us how dumb he is.. lol
152. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
Most recently you stated that VZW was not a part of vz landline when it's owned by vz landline and then you said you never said it even though it was right there in black and white
168. remixfa (Posts: 13905; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
reading comprehension.. you need it.
VZ wireless and landline are 2 seperate companies. landline is owned 100% by VZCommunications. Wireless is a joint venture between VZC and Vodaphone. If you look at the post, on the original i mistakenly said that VZwireless is not part of VZCommmunications when i ment to say VZwireline.
VZWireline and VZWireless are 2 seperate companies. They share the umbrella of VZCommunications. VZWireless is also a joint venture with Vodaphone.
It was a mistype and I corrected myself immediately in my second comment. The comment that YOU replied to me on. You have been trying to nail me to the wall over something I had already corrected myself on, but you are too stupid to read properly.
And again, I asked how have i been wrong. If that's the best you have then it is nothing more than a fail on your part. You are proven wrong over and over and over and over and over again in almost every thread you post on.
You throw out countless insults to anyone that disagrees with you, post things without proof while demanding it of others, claim innocence when anyone calls you on your BS, and in general are a pointless idiot. The more you try to prove me wrong the dumber you look. And its amusing.

10. Heatfan316 (unregistered)
@Bucky to honest with you I don't hate the iPhone and your right it's just a phone I just hate the snobs that love IOS and look down on every other mobile platform out there and some android fans are also guilty of this and I've also owned iPhones in past but now l prefer android now.
11. bucky (Posts: 1427; Member since: 30 Sep 2009)
its ok to prefer one over the other as i love my sgs2. I just dont understand how people think the iphone people are snobs when every website i go to are riddled with android dudez fighting with everyone-lately i even see it amongst themselves!
20. gallitoking (Posts: 4690; Member since: 17 May 2011)
like I said.. quantity over quality.... Apple cares about their iphone and spend time design the iphone... android... well most of them look alike... thats why they pop a phone every month...
61. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
exactly every single Apple article is slammed with fandroid trolls talking s**t. When I read android articles you don't see any Apple users on there bashing android. That's because we're happy with our product and could care less if other people use android.

"Something fandroids rarely refer to."
That's bulls**t and you know it.
49. Sniggly (Posts: 7024; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
The big problem with the article is that first it makes a strawman argument and then commits the error it accuses Android supporters of committing: making an unfair comparison.
The articles that put Android ahead of the iPhone do so because they are discussing the SMARTPHONE MARKET. iPads, iPods, laptops, desktops- none of them are in this market. The iPhone is alone among iOS devices in this market. So when discussing the smartphone market, it is completely fair to stack the Android alliance against the iPhone.
On the other hand, if you want to compare tablets and smartphones together that's okay. But it IS completely unfair for the article to lump in iPods, desktops, and laptops because these are markets that Android hasn't penetrated yet and may never penetrate.
And THAT is the truth.
