Samsung DROID Charge launches tomorrow at Verizon
To refresh your memory, the Samsung DROID Charge offers a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus display with resolution of 480 X 800 pixels. Under the hood is a 1GHz single-core Hummingbird processor powering the device, which will be loaded with Android 2.2. The camera on back is 8MP with a 1.3MP front facing camera. The model is priced at $299.99 with a signed 2-year contract.
Verizon customers finally have another 4G enabled handset to go along with the HTC ThunderBolt. Just remember though, ig you are looking for some dual-core processing action, you will still have to wait until May 26th when Big Red releases the Motorola DROID X2, as we reported earlier.

Just not interested at the price they are foolishly wanting.

300 bucks, I don't think so. Even if I had Verizon I wouldn't pay 300 bucks for a phone.

Verizon may have excellent service, such as reception and decent prices. But they are overcharging for almost all of their phones. I don't know how T-Mobile can do it. Cheap plans and very low prices on phones with equal capabilities than these Verizon phones. Probably why they are being bought out, but who knows. I'd surely sell anything I own...even my girlfriend and parents for 39 Billion

It's crazy that it's so much more than the Thunderbolt, I don't think it has a selling point for the added 50 bucks unless you really want Bluetooth 3.0

some indirect stores have them today with the go-ahead to sell if a customer comes in asking specifically for it.

29. CRICKETownz posted on 14 May 2011, 08:11 0 0
Chicago is a 4G area...one of the major few in the Midwest. If you want great screen clarity go for the Samsung. That's what made me jump ship from Motorola...but if you want a more powerful phone & generally first in line for new software updates wait for the Bionic.
41. bio (unregistered) posted on 14 May 2011, 22:05 0 0
uhmm but how long do i have to wait for the bionic..i wud wait a rlly long time but if i have the date officially told or atleast really close

late summer is the estimated time for the targa which is the most likely candidate for the Bionic name.

or should i wait for the Droid Bionic?...if its coming out
13. JuliaZ (unregistered) posted on 13 May 2011, 15:15 1 1
$300 bucks. No way, this phone or any phone is just not worth that on contract. Verizon is getting way to greedy. Motorola...no way. Touchwhiz...no way. Phone too big...no way. Verizon bloatware....way too much...no way. Verizon's had it day in the sun with the TB and failed this year. No Iphone fan at all, but hey at least the damn thing works without worrying every few minutes if you will lose your wifi connection or some missent txt message, or some screen flaw, or some screwball battery issue, or anything else that might crop up. For me it's going to be a Nexus S or and Iphone coming up. That's it!
30. CRICKETownz posted on 14 May 2011, 08:15 0 0
no iPhone fan at all but u are waiting for the next iPhone? iPhone 5 is not going to be much diff. than the iPhone 4 at all so you'll be waiting another year for an upgraded one
14. bossmt_2 posted on 13 May 2011, 15:16 2 1
Droid Bionic will come out probably during the summer. Revolution, Thunderbolt, and Charge are all around the same, play with each see what UI you like the most. I'd rather wait for the Bionic if I was you. I am.

uhmmm right..uhmm then i guess ima keep waitin for the bionic..i thought the bionic was cancelled but now i kno..hey what about the galaxy s2? it looks cool.is it coming out soon or not coming for verizon..do u have a messanger??so i wont have to wait for an answer??..is cause idk anythin bout phones lol i just love em..if so mines firstname.lastname@example.org

I don't see the point in waiting for a dual core phone like the Droid X2 because dual core is USELESS: no speed & batery benefits untill Android Ice Cream Sandwich is available. The Droid X2 is launching with Froyo....2 software revs away. It'll take forever. Plus it's a 3G device....why buy old technology?
The screen on the Charge is what has my attention plus the 32 GB micro SD card is worth 80-100 bucks alone.
17. stm3nac3 (unregistered) posted on 13 May 2011, 15:55 0 1
uhmm i rlly love the phoness but i dont kno shit bout em..all tht dual core n software got me all crazyy confusedd..can someone explain?

i dont get it, you'll pay 300 for iphone 32gb but not for charge?
seems like your getting more for the charge. better screen and the lte plus hdmi out.
waiting for the bionic, u might wait till the first of the year.

I'm waiting on the HTC Destination. First quad core phone with a hi res screen and a 12MP rear/8MP front facing cam. It's supposed to be pretty slim too. Not Android based tho...it's supposed to be Windows Phone 7 with the usual features HDMI-out etc.
42. bio (unregistered) posted on 14 May 2011, 22:13 0 0
oh wow really?????damn havent heard of that oneeeeee 12 MP? AND 8MP front facing camm!! u rlly know whats up ;) thats what i want dudeee and with HDMI!! woww i just hope the display looks nicee....u shud inform me more when u kno man!! to my email..email@example.com

until that comes to verizon, i think the charge is the way to go. i want to lock in to my unlimited before they tier the data plans. this seems to have the better battery then the tb. ill pay the extra money for the 4g, super am + screen and 32gb card.

I just bought a droid charge from target....this phone is awesome.
22. Koolaid (unregistered) posted on 13 May 2011, 18:31 0 0
at target you can get it for 299.99 but if you use their trade in program you can get up to 200 dollars on an old cell phone. plus they have the red card discount which saves 5% off the top anyways. so it would be like 301 after taxes.
23. atl456 (unregistered) posted on 13 May 2011, 19:34 0 0
droid bionic summertime..FTW..dualcore
26. StillStuckWithDroid (unregistered) posted on 13 May 2011, 23:52 0 0
screw the Charge......nice screen but the guts are already outdated
my "enhanced" OGD with Gingerbread gets better Quadrant scores than this thing
look at all the reviews on the web....they all talk about how the Charge lagged right out of the box
dont waste your money.......it isnt worth 150 let alone 300
its like buying a single core computer just because the LCD screen is pretty
31. CRICKETownz posted on 14 May 2011, 08:22 0 0
Fuck tests...what's the real world/everyday experience like. That's what really matters. People never cease to amaze me...a phone with some nice specs hasn't even come out yet and it somehow already sucks. It's not like its a Kyocera Echo...
36. StillStuckWithDroid (unregistered) posted on 14 May 2011, 13:44 0 0
LOL at the tardishness.....yeah the industry standard test is useless.....heck why did they bother to develop it??
and if you had bothered to look at several hands on reviews of the phone they commented on the phones lagginess already
this phone "specs" would have been "nice" 9 months ago or a year....but now it will be outdated and worthless in a month or two..... but hey....go waste your money on it. DOnt cry like a girl though when it starts lagging all the time....dont say you weren't warned
40. CRICKETownz posted on 14 May 2011, 19:35 0 0
wow...ok so you had a hand in apparently building this phone so i guess i should heed your warning. If i have any issues with the phone i'll be sure to personally let you know so you can feel better about your life (that would be if i was actually getting it, been there done that with Android so chances are...i won't be getting this phone). Carried a Fascinate with all of its so-called issues but funny thing is none of those issues never happened to me. Just b/c you are not impressed with the phone doesn't mean its still not a nice phone & the fact that you are unimpressed before having it in your hands is not very credible. some phones you can tell will suck without dealing with it but the Charge doesn't seem to be one of those.
"fuck tests" doesn't mean don't test the device. it needs to be tested obviously captain obvious the statement more so referred to not letting someone tell you how something is...see for yourself instead of blindly trusting someone elses opinion b/c of their experience.
so everyone who purchases a Charge can 100% expect lag. the secrets out, now starts the decline of Samsung b/c of this...the first EVER phone to lag out of the box. welcome to the world of smartphones. that's what they do from time to time. dual core won't fix this either neither will any future cores...its the nature of the beast. what's a good "cutting edge" phone then, if you don't mind me asking. What kinda car should i buy? what's the best brand of toilet tissue to use? i'm sure you researched it...& you seem so concerned about me wasting my money.
47. StillStuckWithDroid (unregistered) posted on 15 May 2011, 07:41 0 0
ohhhhh someone is a bit sensitive aren't they?
Sorry but I dont believe in buying a "top end" phone that is already being questioned as to its performance, before it is even released. Please explain to me how the Thunderbolt scores in the 1700-1850 area with the same specs as the Charge that is only scoring sub 1000?
As I stated I am getting better scores with my OGD with Gingerbread and only a reasonable overclock?
You don't think that is somewhat concerning?
Also most of the reviews I have seen on the Charge have all talked about the lagginess of the device. Have you heard of any real complaints about the Thunderbolt lagging?
and no a "top end" device should NOT lag right out of the box.....imagine what it will do once it is loaded up with running apps or live wallpaper?
but by all means go spend 300.00 on a "top end" device that is outdated before you even touch it....enjoy
"it needs to be tested obviously captain obvious the statement more so referred to not letting someone tell you how something is".........a fine example of a classic education....wow

go to Costco.. $249.95 for the phone. also, you get free case, car charger and screen protector
35. Joseph Mama (unregistered) posted on 14 May 2011, 13:38 0 0
When I go to "upgrade my phone" online with the discounted program, VZW is knocking an additional $30 off the price to make it $270. This is BEFORE the New-Every-2 discount (mine is $30, making this phone $240 + tax, shipped).
37. Hooligan (unregistered) posted on 14 May 2011, 14:24 0 0
Went to the VZW store earlier today to check this one out, pretty nice phone when you actually get your hands on it. I was far more impressed with it than I thought I would be. The 4G was really fast here in the Dallas area and I really liked how easy it was to text on the Charge. Not paying $300 for it but under $200 might get my attention.
The in store sales guy also told me the Bionic would be out first part of June, told me Big Red was pissed the Atrix on AT&T had more/better features than their version so they had Moto upgrade it a bit and that's what the hold up was for... not holding my breath but an interesting story if it holds out to be true.
38. StillStuckWithDroid (unregistered) posted on 14 May 2011, 14:37 0 0
well that goes against everything all of us have heard so far about the Bionic so I am pretty much think your In Store guy was a moron
the Bionic is the Targa now.....the Etna was plagued with power issues and was scrapped
it wont be out till July AT BEST
