iPhone 5 to come with a curved-glass screen?
Apple has been notoriously secretive about the next-generation of its iPhone, but latest rumor from the supply chain in Taiwan reveals some curious details about the iPhone 5, which might arrive with a curved-glass screen. Industry sources, quoted by hit-or-miss daily DigiTimes, claim that Cupertino has purchased some 200 to 300 glass-cutting machines in order to make the whole production process possible. But the Taiwanese publication didn’t give any detail on the form of curvature and we could only speculate on an iPod nano screen look alike, or even an arced display resembling the one on the Nexus S.

Cover glass makers, on their part, have been reluctant to purchase the expensive technology. But even after Apple’s purchase, the machines remain stored and unused at associated plants as yield rates for production of the curved glass screens haven’t reached a satisfactory level. If true, it seems like there are still many unresolved issues for the next-generation iPhone, iterating once again a later release date, possibly in September. Currently, we can think of the T-Mobile G2x and the upcoming HTC Sensation as being one of the few high-end models with slightly curved screens, but Apple could well surprise us with something new altogether. What’s your creative guess for the possibly curved screen of the iPhone 5? Sound off in the comments below.
