Latest Mi 7 leak pegs Samsung as the only notch holdout in the top 5 Android makers
Look, Ma, another notch! If you thought it's above and beyond the current 4th-largest Android phone maker to go the way of the notch, you may be sorely mistaken, as the latest Xiaomi Mi 7 leak shows a big fat top bezel cutout at the front. If Xiaomi's newest flagship materializes like that, it will leave only Samsung as the Last of the Notchikans. LG has it on the G7, Huawei on the P20-series, and Oppo on plenty.

Apart from the notch-y front, the Mi 7 seems very much like the Mi Mix 2s at the back, as you can see below, but much smaller, which would be welcome news in this day and age of 6-inchers everywhere. The finger scanner is placed on the back, so you don't have to stretch down all the way each time you want to look something up when holding the phone with one hand, so that's one more plus for the Mi 7's ergonomics.

The handset looks pretty in its beige glass (or maybe ceramic, like on the Mix 2s) body, and the dual vertical camera is likely the Mi Mix 2s kit, with optical zoom, and other shenanigans. The settings shot shows a version with 6GB RAM/128 GB storage, but there are rumors for an 8GB/256GB version as well. All be revealed just two weeks from now, on May 23, so stay tuned.

Notch means more usable screen and aside from some Internet paranoia there is no reason it should NOT be used if possible. Samsung is the only one using an outdated design with a permanent useless black bar at the top of the phone.

Samsung using outdated design? Yet S9(+) has higher screen-to-body-ratio...

Yet you went ahead and bought that famous Note 8 that had burn-in issues within the 1st three days, right? Now back to your cave.

at the end of third week , yeah.

Except that here and in comment #10 you claimed that you faced that issue within the 2nd week, not the 3rd. Then when you were challenged by the whole community on this website you said you will send a picture to prove us wrong, only to go into hiding mode for few weeks before showing up hating on Samsung phones and glorifying LG products. Buddy, trust me, even those who upvote your comments know that you're an LG employee who is FOS.

Perhaps more usable screen compared to the entire body. It does take away space from full screen apps (which I force on most apps) and more importantly it takes away space for status icons and notifications. Not to mention its butt ugly but that's just my opinion

My notchless Mi Mix2 says otherwise. Let's hope Xiaomi don't introduce the notch on any of their phones. Their ceo said it would never happen with the Mix series and hopefully that applies to the rest of their range too.

you're mad Sammy isn't following in everyone else' footsteps? every other android manufacturer is just doing it because it's working for Apple, and that's it. If they really thought it was a good idea, they would've been implementing notches LONG ago, this isn't some new technology allowing for this

But what’s the use of the notch if you still have bottom chin? And thats total horrible as while viewing video you get a screen cutout and bottom bezel which doesn’t make a phone near to bezelless.

"Notch means more usable screen" Not really, S9 got bigger screen to-body-ratio than iNotch-X

This is cringy and pathetic. Big companies copying apple so shamelessly; not just the notch, but the camera bump as well. You have to commend Samsung for avoiding this horrid trend.

Hold on, wasn't under-display fingerprint scanner confirmed on the Mi7?

Samsung is acting like a mature competitor who doesn't copy every move of its rivals and is trying to stand out.

I normally wouldn't go for a Samsung device but if all the phones do this by next year March.. my next device will be a notchless Samsung device.

A notchless Samsung device will probably not exist in Samsung's new lineup from next year. It's just that Samsung is one year behind everyone else.

Looks like I'm stuck with my 5T until the notch trend dies out. Not the worst thing in the world. It's an ace phone :D

Looks like a iPhone X with a chin on the bottom. With such a big notch on the front I wonder if it has something similar to Face ID?

Only Samsung left? Which Sony phone have notch? Samsung dont need the notch either, since they goes with curved edge screens which gives more screen area than the notch.

Motorola had X5 in the pipeline, with a notch. It has been cancelled though.
