Verizon's Touch Pro2 to be launched tomorrow at $199.99

Verizon's Touch Pro2 to be launched tomorrow at $199.99
Verizon Wireless announced today that the highly anticipated Touch Pro2 will be available starting tomorrow, September 11th. The price will be $199.99 with a 2 year contract and after a $100 mail-in rebate. The price after rebate is $150 lower than the price that T-Mobile and Sprint are charging for their versions of the same handset.

The device is full of features and is equipped with a 3.6 inch touchscreen with resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, a landscape sliding QWERTY keyboard, Opera Mobile browser, a 3.2MP camera with AF and video capture, a Qualcomm processor clocked at 528MHz, an extended 1500mAh battery, and most importantly the device sports a 3.5mm audio jack.

With 3 out of the top 4 U.S. carriers having released the Touch Pro2, AT&T is the lone holdout so far, but leaked pictures have shown a version for the carrier and we can't imagine it would be too long before that model is released.

Not sure if you got an answer to this or not but I will share what I have found. Initially the phone will only be available for purchase online or in store as drop shipment only. I was told that It would likely be a couple of weeks before the device was available for purchase in local stores. I'm in the Southeast market, so the phone is not expected in stores until the end of September, or 1st week of October.

Bad news, looks like this will be for fulfillment only. I check nearly every VZW store including BJ's and Walmart and every sales consultant confirmed that the stores will be equipped to take orders for direct shipment only. They likely will not have the phiysical device in stock until the 16th. So, looks like the wait will be an extra day at the least. For the area in which I live anyway.

Actually, no. The stores in Florida do NOT have this device yet. They are still taking drop shipment orders only. Although the link references you can buy the handset in stores, that will be the case eventually, but not at this time. In fact, the VZW employees in my area have all stated that it will not be until sometime around the end of the September, early October that the handset will be available for in-store purchase. Interestingly enough, I got the same response from a Sprint employee regarding their version of the phone. Their date was 10/04/2009. Again, this may only apply to Florida and the Carolinas.

Actually the only reason I'm getting it is because I'm gonna install 6.5 on it and the Sense UI skin. It'll look enough like Android to hold me over.

today android should be making announcement's hopefully about the sholes, but i'm also torn with this phone and the sholes. my crackberry lived up to it's nickname and the screen cracked so it's time for a new phone and i will pay retail price for this phone don't wanna be locked into a contract for another two years and don't wanna wait for 12/30 for new every two.

im now torn between this phone (which is was incredibly excited for) and waiting for the motorola sholes. I was told by a friend who works at google to wait for the sholes, however that could be a baised opinion jsut slightly. So i think i might wait to compare, but i will definitely check this out tomorrow.

Was this only on an in-store model? While I'd agree that initial impressions are very important for any consumer decision, I hardly think that playing with an in-store model for 20 minutes would give me any real insight as to how a "fresh-out-of-the-box" version of the phone would do... Of course, you could be speaking as a customer who bought the phone, and then returned it very quickly because it was just that horrific for it to be in your possession. In which case, I completely understand your complaint.
