Not to be outdone by HP with its star-studded celebrity webOS campaign, Windows Phone 7 is recruiting famous people for marketing purposes in its own turn.
Music producer Timbaland, who is behind names like Nelly Furtado, Keri Hilson or Justin Timberlake, seems to be mesmerized by the ability to play Xbox Live games on a phone, in a tweet aimed to tout the virtues of Verizon's HTC Trophy:
Microsoft is rumored to step up marketing and awareness about the Windows Phone platform, especially improving on carrier relationships, which, as some secret shopper experiences confirmed, leave much to be desired.
The real big guns marketing is probably being saved for when Nokia Windows Phones and the second generation of WP7 handsets with the Mango update hit later this year, but scoring Timbaland is not bad for a start. Perhaps "Talking on the phone" was the reason he scored the HTC Trophy promo, this song is so made for a smartphone TV ad.
