Sony's Xperia Z5 Compact is now available to buy in Europe
Sony this week started selling the Xperia Z5 Compact in several European markets, including the UK. Currently, British customers can buy the Z5 Compact SIM-free for £449.99 (about €609, or $680), or on contract on various plans. The Z5 Compact is offered in three color versions: black, white, and coral (some sort of orange-ish pink). Besides the UK, the new Sony handset is also available in Sweden, Spain, Italy, and Poland, costing around €599 (off contract).

Sporting a 4.6-inch display with 720 x 1280 pixels, the Z5 Compact is the smallest handset from Sony's brand new Xperia Z5 series, which also includes the 5.2-inch Z5, and the 5.5-inch Z5 Premium (both of which will be released at later dates). Highlight features of the Z5 Compact include a 23 MP rear camera with fast auto focus and 4K video recording, fingerprint scanner, an octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor, 32 GB of expandable storage space, and a 2700 mAh battery. The Z5 Compact runs Android Lollipop, and, like most Xperias launched in the last few years, it's dust- and water-resistant (IP 68 certified). For a closer look at the device, check out our Xperia Z5 Compact hands-on.

At the moment, we don't know if Sony is planning to release the Xperia Z5 Compact in the US, but the smartphone will certainly be sold in more European markets, as well as in various Asian countries.

My mom would love this. Her old Iphone 5 is too small for her taste. This one is just the right size.

Then you'll get those psychos that complain about asymmetric bezels.

Sony phones rock, but they're always overpriced. ALWAYS. This will be a good phone though, several reviews have said its the best battery life they've ever had on any phone and I'm not surprised, considering its predecessor (Z3C) was the battery god of 2014, and still is of 2015, but might be surpassed by Z5C, especially since one review claimed they charged the phone Friday and used it normally and it didn't die until Monday.....

Considering z4 is of average battery life and 1 hour less than z3. I doubt it.

That's because of the 810 overheating issues. Go to Anandtech and find their article about the 810 and battery life. Every flagship of 2014 has better battery life than their 2015 successor that uses the 810 and their test concluded it was because of the bad processor.

There's a version 2 of the 810 that has apparently addressed the original overheating issues, maybe you missed the news?

Why is 2015 such a hard year to decide on a phone?

I'd wait for Z6C or Z7C. For now Z3C FTW!

agree... I love that they included fingerprint scanner... I've missed that feature since my old Moto Atrix.... but for me I now see that 2GB of RAM is ok but not ideal... I would at least like to have 3GB... However, the camera is very tempting, though so far I've been very happy with the one on the Z3C

Dxomark also made the camera no.1, which is very exciting to see. Sony quickly fixed their mistakes from the z3+ onto the z5 family which I highly respect them for doing.

Why did PA take that article out? I mean it was a very visited article with many comments and it was something positive for the Xperia Z5, and they deleted it... PA must really hate Sony phones...

is it the camera that's pushing the price so high or just the fact that they crammed this all in such a small form factor?

May be part of the reason, but for some reason Sony competitive just higher thats all

Why are people complaining it's expensive? It's on par with the most flagship phones! Sony is not a cheap Chinese company.

28. Cheezwiz

because it's a 720p screen and a physically smaller handset. The screen is the most expensive component in a smartphone. This price doesn't seem to reflect that.

And the smaller screen means they need to spend more on engineering costs to get the same equipment as the larger phone in lesser space. There's much more to it than the panel itself.

I can say the Compact is quite expensive. I guess that's the trend of powerful insides in a small footprint gadgets but generally people see Xperias as expensive. Beacuse it's Sony? I can say their old VAIOs are expensive but their phones are just priced enough.

The camera on z3c is the worst camera I have had on any phone I have owned. The design is awful too. Glass back boxy little thing. Fantastic idea though having a full power compact. I will not buy again unless there's a big design change.
