Sony Xperia Z5 dummy unit allegedly photographed in the wild

Sony Xperia Z5 dummy unit allegedly photographed in the wild
Not long after we saw a promo image that may have revealed the back of the Xperia Z5 Compact, we can now take a look at several leaked photos that reportedly show a regular Xperia Z5 - more exactly, a dummy unit (which should be similar to the real device).

Appeared somewhere in China, the photos unfortunately show the alleged Z5 inside a protective case, though we can still see that the handset's overall design is not too different from that of the Xperia Z3+ / Z4 (but we were already expecting this anyway).

Rumors have it that, just like the Xperia Z3+, the Z5 will be powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor. Other features may include a 21.5 MP rear camera (possibly the one that debuted on the Xperia M5), a Quad HD (1440 x 2560 pixels) screen, and 3 GB or 4 GB of RAM. Of course, for now we can't be sure of anything.

Sony might plan to announce the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact next month, at IFA 2015 (4 - 9 September). An Xperia Z5+ may also be unveiled then. All in all, September could be a very important month for Sony, and we'll be here to let you know all about the company's announcements.

Uh, I'm tired of this design. It's not bad by any means, but it's just getting old. It's the same situation like with One M9. It looks really good, but we already want something new.

I really couldn't care less what it looks like, as long as they can pull off that finger print sensor in the power button trick, then the Z5 compact is all mine.

What a load of bull crap! Most OEMs have more or less retained the same design language for their top end phones, iPhones (just bigger than they used to be), Samsung Galaxy S line (the S6 only introduced premium materials but looks pretty much the same as S5), HTC, LG G2, G3 and G4 and so on. It is basically a large screen with a frame and innards so not sure what you people expect. Oh and the new iPhone will look exactly the same as the previous iterations yet Sony gets all the hate! The Edge is the only new design in recent times, and save for the pretty much useless curved Edge still looks like the regular S6 for the most part. By the way, I use the S6 Edge but getting a Huawei P8 as my pay as you go phone, my cheap and cheerful knock around phone, if you like. Oh yeah, it looks identical to the Xperia Z line and bears a striking resemblance to the iPhone.....but more like the Xperia, camera and button placements. Please do quit with your belly aching......most top end phones, and I repeat, are basically a large rectangular screen surrounded by plastic/metal/polycarbonate etc.

Hope this is fake. I want to see type C connectors going forward. Also not sure how that power button would double as a fingerprint scanner. Unless there's a more dedicated one on the other side.

The fingerprint scanner is behind the power button... It will use an ultrasonic scanner... But people will still say it isn't revolutionary...

It's not revolutionary unless it's by Samsung or Apple, because they bought into those brands.

If I'm not mistaken, that type of fingerprint scanner was developed by Qualcomm. Not Sony.

Sony never learned..

Maybe Sony and HTC should swap designs, and TA-DA! Problem solved... Just Kidding, but on a serious note, they cannot be doing this next year again at MWC2016.

Sony has the best design. Never change it unless you are making the bezels smaller. Even tho this looks fake..

You can only have the same exact design for so long before people get bored.

Its worked pretty well for most OEMs, Samsung, Apple, HtC, LG an so on. Materials have changed but the basic design for most top end phones remains the same!

How on earth are you getting hurt by Sony releasing phones? Very egoistic and stupid comment, wanting less companies to push technology forward.

It's just basic fanboy mentality. They want their favorite brand to be most successful and want the competitors to fail cuz they feel threatened by them. They don't see how having less phone manufacturers is bad for consumers and the economy in the grand scheme.

Don't like it, don't buy it, fairly simple concept, I believe. I personally am all for variety and choice. Sony did inspire Apple after all as stated by Steve Jobs!

You bought two phones that are clones of each other except the latter is crapper. On top of that you nearly wasted two grand. Well done.

I don't mind the same overall look, but they really need to move on from the same old tiny weak LED flash and move the headphone jack to the bottom.
