Sony Xperia Z3 camera modes on video: VR Fun, Face in, and more
The 20.7MP camera on the back of the Sony Xperia Z3 is one of its many highlights. It has a larger-than-average sensor and a wide-angle lens to produce high-quality images no matter the situation. Need examples? Well, we managed to take a few photos with the Xperia Z3 here at IFA, and they turned out really good. Hardware, however, is just one of the several factors determining the quality of the produced image. Software takes a key role as well. And in the case with the Sony Xperia Z3, the software is enhanced with a ton of modes, allowing users to snap better, fancier shots. Here's our quick look at the new modes that have been included with the Sony Xperia Z3 – AR Fun, Face in, Sound Photo, Multi Angle, and Sticker creator.

Can't Sony just improve their image algorithm and do away with these gimmicks?

Because Sony makes good image algorithms for their cameras and gimmicks for their phones. Essentially, Sony wants you to buy a camera and a phone, not just a phone. And so the same way HTC recycled their mediocre 4MP "UltraPixel" camera unit, Sony has been recycling their mediocre 20.7MP "LotsOfMegaPixel" camera unit.

Their G Lens is actually top-notch. They tune it to perform poorly or their compact cameras would be obsolete in terms of sales.
