Sony Xperia Z3 Compact to be cheaper than initially believed (at least in the UK)

Earlier this month, when Sony officially announced the Xperia Z3 Compact, the company said that the handset would be available to buy before the end of this quarter - at the same time with the Xperia Z3 and Z3 Tablet Compact. Sony even revealed pre-order prices for the Z3 Compact: £429 in the UK, and €499 in other European markets.

In case you think these prices are too high, we have good news: the Z3 Compact may cost less at launch. In fact, a few British retailers (including Clove and Handtec) are already listing lower pre-order prices for the handset: around £349 - which means €438. At the same time, however, Sony UK still lists the initial £429 pre-order price, so we’ll have to wait and see exactly how much the smartphone costs when it becomes available.

Just like the larger Xperia Z3, the Z3 Compact runs Android 4.4 KitKat, and offers a dust- and water-resistant body (IP68-certified). The Z3 Compact sports a 4.6-inch display with 720 x 1280 pixels, being powered by a quad-core 2.5 GHz Snapdragon 801 processor. Other features: 20.7 MP rear camera with 4K video recording, 2.2 MP front-facing camera, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of expandable internal memory, and a 2600 mAh battery. The smartphone will come in four color versions: black, white, red/orange, and green.

Worth the price, considering that flagship phones are around £550 ( excluding iPhones).

iPhone is a very general term, and does not constitute a single device...

I know that both the Z3 and Z3C is the most well rounded smartphone available in the market today. But don't dream that Z3C will beat the iphone in terms of sales, at least not now. There are still many things sony need to do to be able to compete with apple.

I like to have devices that are not the best selling... I am not saying that I like a dying company but I do like that companies are not simple the top in the market because most of the time that generates over-confidence and lack of innovation... I think Sony has been doing a great job with their phones portafolio but they are still behind in terms of software bugs, marketing and availability... I will get the Z3 Compact because it is, feature by feature just what I have been wishing after owning the Acro S... I hope it delivers, improve and learned from past mistakes, with the Z1 Compact.

Sony just keep a giving value for money. I was considering the big z3 but at thia price, will definitely go with the compact. As for iphong, don't worry, its days are numbered. The masses are waking up to the reality that Apple is now a mere follower bereft of innovative ideas. Personally, I wish Apple would reduce prices before its too late as I see Android going to 90% market share. Apple is making the same mistake, again. These companies never learn !

I think the OG Moto X is a better value. BTW PA, do you think I should wait for the Moto X's price to drop, or is it too risky as the phone may be discontinued soon? What do you think?

For outright buying, Sony phones are always cheaper than the other bigger brands, this is something not often raised in comparison.

If only they made them more widely available. The Z2 was a step in the right direction but still limited in availability compared to other flagships. I hope to see the Z3 Compact in the US and working on Verizon so I can replace my smaller backup phone(s) as the Z3c will most likely have better battery life and dual front speakers without being too big.
