Sony Xperia Z1 photo and video samples show off its 20.7MP camera
So here we are at IFA 2013 and the latest smartphone we got to play with is the Sony Xperia Z1. It is the company's newest flagship device, packed with all kinds of goodies both on the software and on the hardware side. The 20.7MP camera is on this list of exciting features and sure enough, we didn't miss our chance to give it a try.

Here you'll see a bunch of full-resolution photos taken with the Sony Xperia Z1. In addition, we took a short 1080p video sample (sorry, guys, the phone has no 4K video support as it was rumored) so you can check that out as well. Note that the lighting conditions at the booth weren't exactly optimal, so the test was extra challenging for the device. Nevertheless, Sony's latest and greatest managed to deliver satisfactory results. Dive into the slideshow below and see for yourself!

Nope sorry. Sony did pretty good with their new camera, but Lumia 1020 still blows everything away.

a smaller sensor coming close to larger sensor is a shame for lumia 1020 thats it

lol, at first you said z1 beats 1020, after papasmurf said something, you 'admit' it only coming close, and then try to defend it by writing some mumbojumbo... i guess people with real eyes will know better...

im sorry man but this is not as good as i was expecting...if these are real, im kind of disappointed. when you click on the samples you can see the pic, but it says scaled 15%...when i click on the photo, it gets its real size i guess and then i see a lot of dots and noise. im not an expert, photographer, whatever...maybe im wrong, seeing things, but thats not what i was expecting.

Frankly speaking, I'm not impressed by the samples at all, even considering that they have been shot in dull weather. There's something "wrong" in Sony's approach to image processing: there are evident noise reduction artifacts (just look at the images at 100% size) and there's not much detail. Perhaps, 20mp are too much on a sensor that is bigger than traditional smartphone sensor, yet not bigger than the sensor you find in compact cameras that exhibits problems as soon as they go above 16mp. Sony's approach is to feed the masses with more megapixels: unfortunately, this does not translate to image quality. The G lens won't save a sensor that crams too many pixels in too little space.

according to medhodology consumer assesments xperia z1 takes better images as.compared to lumia 1020,htc one, lumia 925,iphone 5 and galaxy s4 check here for proof and the real.claim www.sonymobile.com/global-en/legal/testresults/xperia-z1/#camera-overall

read first. they said it's conducted by an independent research agency. however, i'm also taking those results with a pinch of salt. it's just like a phonearena test. they may try skewing things by deliberately trying to use angles that make the resulting photos less than desired.

it will be not a surprise if z1 loses to lumia 1020 due to smaller sensor as compared to lumia 1020 but what if those claims are true?? what if a snaller sensor is coming close to a much bigger sensor? why would a brand make a false claims??

i really hope that's the case. i like sony. at least, when it comes to cameras, they should be on top.

Wow, did you just ask why a brand would make a false claim?? Lol oh man...

They said the same when they launched XZ. We all know how that turned out. Pathetic at best (for XZ camera quality)
